Trump says there won't be a third presidential debate

Source: CNN

Former President Donald Trump announced Thursday that there would not be a third presidential debate.

“KAMALA SHOULD FOCUS ON WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE DURING THE LAST ALMOST FOUR YEAR PERIOD. THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Trump debated President Joe Biden in June and Vice President Kamala Harris earlier this week.

Harris’ campaign had called for another debate after the vice president and Trump faced off at ABC’s presidential debate on Tuesday.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.

First debate: Biden presents as tired senior citizen, Trump presents as raving lunatic.

Second debate: Harris presents as dynamic, poised middle aged woman, Trump presents as nearly-homicidal maniac.

Third debate: Harris brings a platoon of infantrymen from the 101st Airborne Division with her to protect her from Trump.

"Madam Vice President, why did you bring fifty people armed with M-4 rifles and M-240 machine guns with you tonight?"
"You saw him last time, right? You can't be too careful when dealing with crazy people."

Now let Harris work with her campaign rallies and crowds and let Trump rally his crazies. I bet media will paint the second debate as a Trump comeback. Do we have faith in the MSM?

Let the open wounds from the debate remain for Trump and with the MSM not have a chance to say - "Oh, look, how much better Trump is now. It is a dead heat."

Bowing out of additional debates against Kamala Harris makes Donald Trump appear pitiful and scared. He's doing it anyway.

Bowing out of additional debates against Kamala Harris makes Trump appear pitiful and scared, following an embarrassing showing on Tuesday night.

He's doing it anyway.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/harris-challenge-trump-vows-no-2024-debates-rcna170909

So, what’s Trump’s actual plan? A new piece published to his social media platform offers at least some clarity about the Republican’s plans. Reuters reported:

Republican Donald Trump said on Thursday he would not participate in another presidential debate against his Democratic rival Kamala Harris ahead of the Nov. 5 election, as several polls showed that she beat him. “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!” the former president wrote on social media site Truth Social, after participating in a debate against President Joe Biden in June and Vice President Harris earlier this week.

In other words, as far as Trump is concerned, the presidential debate process for the 2024 cycle has run its course. Presumably, an upcoming vice presidential debate is still on track, though given recent events, it’s difficult to say with certainty.

Barring a dramatic change of course, this will be the first year in the modern era in which the major-party presidential nominees only met for one televised debate. (That said, there were no presidential debates at all in 1964, 1968, or 1972.).....

Stepping back, it’s certainly been a rollercoaster ride. For months, the GOP candidate was so excited about the possibility of presidential debates that he routinely declared, “ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, ANYPLACE.” Trump also suggested he’d like to see 10 debates, rather than the usual three.

Then President Joe Biden ended his re-election campaign, at which point Trump became noticeably less eager to get on the stage.

This week, Harris dominated the Republican nominee, leaving him embarrassed, while leaving his party hoping he’d be able to avoid further embarrassment.

It’s against this backdrop that Trump is bowing out of additional debates, indifferent to how pitiful and scared it makes him appear.

writing the headline you would have chosen if this had been Joe because we saw similar headlines so many times: "Joe backs out of future debates after weak showing." Then there would have been a subhead about how everyone and her brother thinks Joe should drop out for the good of the country.

For the vile thing, you do a careful, neutral headline: "Trump says he won't participate in another presidential debate." Then you give air to his ridiculous complaints against Kamala, and finally acknowledge the blatant fact that she won (which I suppose we should be grateful for.)

At this point, there is no doubt CNN knows they are showing bias towards him, and there is no escaping the fact they are doing it on purpose.

Fri Sep 13, 2024, 01:19 PM

Last month, Donald Trump wanted a Fox News debate hosted by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum. Now, evidently, they’re not quite partisan enough for him.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/trump-fox-hosts-are-no-longer-good-enough-possible-second-debate-rcna170874

During the same on-air appearance, Fox’s Steve Doocy raised the prospect of a debate moderated by his colleagues Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum. As a New York Times report noted, Trump didn’t exactly endorse the idea.

‘Well, I wouldn’t want to have Martha and Bret; I would love to have somebody else other than Martha and Bret,’ Mr. Trump said, before ticking off his preferred alternatives, including the Fox pundits Sean Hannity and Jesse Watters. ‘Let’s give other people a shot,’ he said.

The Republican added that, as far as he was concerned, Baier and MacCallum weren’t “good” during Fox’s post-debate coverage, which apparently means they’ve fallen out of favor.

Fox’s Brian Kilmeade defended the Fox anchors and assured Trump that Baier and MacCallum would be “extremely fair.” That apparently didn’t prove persuasive — because fairness almost certainly isn’t what the former president is looking for.

In case anyone’s forgotten, when Trump tried in August to get out of the ABC event, he published an online item specifically saying he wanted a Fox News debate, adding, “The Moderators of the Debate will be Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum.”

That, of course, was before the anchors failed to pretend he fared well on Tuesday night.

81. Trump still struggling to explain his poor debate performance
Tue Sep 17, 2024, 12:01 PM

Donald Trump could stop talking about his debate loss against Kamala Harris. He prefers to instead push ridiculous conspiracy theories about the event.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/trump-still-struggling-explain-poor-debate-performance-rcna171291

When Donald Trump lost a debate last week, he responded in a more Trumpian way. The New York Times reported on the Republican candidate’s rally in Las Vegas late last week.

Over the course of an hour and 20 minutes, Mr. Trump ranted about the moderators of Tuesday’s debate. ... And even as Mr. Trump continued to insist that he had been victorious in the debate — though some of his allies have acknowledged he had a rough outing — he accused Ms. Harris of wearing an earpiece in their matchup, a baseless claim that has proliferated on right-wing social media. And he said that Ms. Harris had obtained the questions in advance, an assertion for which there has been no proof.

This was, incidentally, a speech in which the GOP nominee was supposed to talk about the economy.....

Instead, the Republican told his followers that he’d “heard” — from whom, he did not say — that Kamala Harris received the questions in advance (she did not) and wore an earpiece that allowed her to cheat (which is utterly false).

The Washington Post’s Dan Balz — who hardly has a reputation for being a bomb-throwing ideologue — explained in a notable analysis, “Former president Donald Trump has long inhabited a bizarre world of his own creation. He rewrites history — or makes it up entirely — to aggrandize himself, denigrate others and spread the basest of lies. It keeps getting worse. Since Tuesday’s debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, he’s spiraled ever deeper into conspiracy theories, falsehoods and grievances.”

Despite all of this, NBC News reported that the Republican nominee left open the possibility of another debate with Harris, saying it might happen if he were in “the right mood.” Trump said that the day after issuing a written statement that said, in no uncertain terms, “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!”

So, what’s likely to happen next? Watch this space.
