'We beat their f--ing a-': Army soldier bragged he 'stood for something' when he assaulted police on Jan. 6, feds say

An active duty U.S. Army soldier from Hawaii is accused of assaulting officers guarding the Capitol on Jan. 6 and later bragging that “we took our house back” and “Then we beat their f—— a– and stood for something.”

Alexander Cain Poplin, 31, was arrested on Tuesday at Schofield Barracks near Honolulu. He faces charges of assaulting officers with a dangerous weapon, civil disorder, trespassing, disorderly conduct and engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced in a news release.

Clad in a black jacket and a black beanie containing a yellow Gadsden flag snake logo, along with an Army camouflage backpack, Poplin is seen holding different flags throughout the day at the Capitol, authorities said.

Poplin was first seen attending former President Donald Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., before making his way to the Capitol, according to a statement of facts unsealed on Wednesday.

Please don't do the UO (Under Other Than Honorable Conditions) or even the BCD (Bad Conduct Discharge). Attacking the Capital and fighting with Capital Police more than fits the "extreme offenses" required for DD in my mind. The military needs to make an example here and set a precedent. We're held to a higher standard for a reason. That's part of signing up.

He's a 31-year old PV1. Was he in the Army in 2021? If so, why is he still an E-1?

As far as he current rank, best guess, court martial for something else.

In any event, he appears to have reached the nadir of a lackluster Army career.

I wish DoJ would defer to prosecution before a general court-martial.

He can't be tried twice by the same sovereign for the same crime.

I would like to see DoJ defer to the Army for prosecution at court-martial.

14. Charge him with sedition

And if found guilty, sentence him to death. Sedition isn't a civilian capital crime; it is a capital crime under the UCMJ.

He's 31 years old so I thought he must be an E-6 at least. A 31-year old private E-1. Interesting. Can you tell me where you discovered his rank?

A dishonorable discharge means no gainful employment for him and no VA benefits. Poplin won't be contributing to social security for probably the next ten years (by reading the charges levied against him).

Good luck finding employment at 41 as a dishonorably discharged felon and saving money for your retirement, PV1 Poplin.

is thinking back to when my son was in the Navy, stationed at the submarine base at Norfolk. He was subjected to fox news and rush limbaugh all day every day. this was about 2002, 2003.

this guy may very well have been radicalized right there in the service. Something should be done about propaganda running wild in the USA. it's destroying us. Right wing hate media is an abuse of the first amendment. think a thousand voices yelling fire in a theater that is not on fire.
