Pete Buttigieg Explains Why There's 'Even More' To Trump's Racist Debate Lie

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg argued on Thursday that its a strategy for Donald Trump to push the racist lie that Haitian immigrants are eating pets. Theres even more to it than demonizing immigrants, although thats obviously part of what hes doing, Buttiegieg told CNNs Kaitlan Collins.
This is a strategy to get us talking about the latest crazy thing he did, whatever urban legend he amplifies. Right now, its about people eating cats or geese or whatever because he cannot afford for us to be talking about his record, he added.
On Tuesday, Trump amplified the claim to over 67 million people who watched the debate between him and Vice President Kamala Harris. The former president took the lie on the road to an Arizona rally on Thursday. Buttigieg told Collins that Trump doesnt want Americans to discuss political issues including how he demolished the right to choose in the U.S. during his administration.
The last thing he wants us to do is to talk about his record or his agenda so what he wants us talking about is whatever crazy nonsense he can thrust into the center of the internet and the media conversation, said Buttigieg, who said the distraction technique isnt harmless.

(3,586 posts)I bet Tim Walz would be cool with 4 years, and maybe a different job for the next term if he needs more time for a lifetime federal pension. Tim already he doesn't want to stay past being her VP, as he is nearing retirement age already.

(1,995 posts)This whole pet-eating nonsense started with a Simone-from-Ferris-Bueller type Facebook post about the supposed abduction/butchering of somebody's cat.
Vance took that and ran with it. He mostly used the generic word "pets," but I think his intent was to amplify the original cat story so as to somehow counter the supreme backfiring of his "cat ladies" crusade. Along with demonizing the Haitian immigrants (and by default the Democratic party over immigration), the implication was supposed to be "See?? They're EATING the cats you love so much!!!"
The entire right wing then picked up his crap and amplified it. Notice that almost all the AI memes with Trump picture him "rescuing" cats/kittens, along with ducks. I've seen ONE meme with a puppy, the rest are all cats/ducks. The cat aspect is very heavily featured.
But then Trump got onstage at the debate, and fucked it up.
"THEY'RE EATING THE DOGS!!"
He has a thing for using dogs in his rants, such as " (fill in the blank) ... like a dog!!" He started out with "they're eating the dogs... and the cats... and the pets..." But when fact-checked by the moderator, he TWICE insisted that "the people on TV" said their DOG was taken, and used for food. Not their cat, or their duck, or their goose. Their dog.
He changed the narrative of the false claim from cats to dogs, which wrecked the "two-fer" aspect of the cat-loving populace being targeted by Vance. And made his entire statement even more subject to intense ridicule, except for his MAGA minions, of course.

(4,237 posts)could see from all this is the eventual roundup of all pets in a T admin. They hate pets... they seem to hate what our pets give us, and it's something out of their control. You know an autocrat can't stand it when people have a comfort the autocrat can't control so they will seek to control this. It's been done b4... just not in this country. Until now we had no autocrat.
I have no doubt they would want to rip this comfort from us under the guise of, say, national health during a pandemic, etc. I just don't like them constantly harping in on our babies. It's dangerous.

(11,223 posts)Iran and North Korea have banned people from owning pets. How sad. How awful.
It's as if they want their citizens to be totally miserable all the time. Yeah, I could see pedo Trump and his people lap dogs going along with something like this.

(47,784 posts)Just like the Willie Horton video. They were race baiting. And this time, instead of the audience being a group of white Karens, it was a woke Kamala Harris, who laughed it back in Trump's face, exposing how idiotic he sounded.

Even if they could steal the election (they can't) - why would they give it to such an obvious idiot?

I understand this was good tongue-in-cheek spin and I appreciate it, but let's be clear. He says crazy shit because he's operating on the old gopper axiom that if you scare enough white people you'll win. Welfare queens, Willie Horton, Communists, drag queens, CRT, Haitians eating your pets.
When trump says "under Biden, 20 million people have poured into our country," he's not lying to distract from his record. He's trying to scare enough white people to win. It's why his favorite fox news personalities are the ones who, like Limbaugh (did) spend their time on air scaring white people.
And while people are laughing at this latest ploy to "scare the whites" Haitians in Springfield, OH fear for their lives because of the white people who are scared by even the most ridiculous crap this piece of shit says. Infuriating.

(3,221 posts)...the bizarre rants about people eating dogs, illegal immigrants taking over vast parts of Colorado, public schools cutting kids' privates off, liberals "aborting babies" after they're born, battery-powered boats vs. sharks, insulting McCain and military people - and all the other made-up, unhinged shit he says - is having no negative impact on Republican/conservative planned voting numbers. After all of his bullshit, the fact that this is still a neck-and-neck race is horrifying.
