"Irresponsible": White House slams Musk's comment on Trump assassination attempt

The White House on Monday criticized Elon Musk's now-deleted post that questioned why former President Trump has recently faced two apparent assassination attempts while President Biden and Vice President Harris have not.
The big picture: After Sunday's apparent attempt on Trump's life, Musk wrote on his X platform in a since-removed post, "And no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala 🤔."
The billionaire entrepreneur initially resisted calls online to delete the post. He responded to one request to reconsider his comment, saying, "No one has even tried to do so is the point I'm making and no one will." He responded to another request to delete and reword with, "Fair enough. I don't want to do what they have done, even in jest." Musk eventually deleted the post and tried to claim it was a joke.
What they're saying: "As President Biden and Vice President Harris said after yesterday's disturbing news, 'there is no place for political violence or for any violence ever in our country,' and 'we all must do our part to ensure that this incident does not lead to more violence,'" White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said in a statement.

(5,982 posts)You know, two attempts on Trump should be balanced out by two on Biden or Harris?
Time to say Elon.

(13,579 posts)The condemnation needs to be swift and hard so this kind of dangerous rhetoric is not mimicked. This jackass is also a danger to the US. Revoke all his contracts & keep him on FBI watch. We all know Musk leans RW & with authoritarians the world.

SpaceX is their (and all the rest on the ISS) only way back home unless they use Russia's Soyuz to get home. That's why so much hope was put on Boeing as an alternative/backup.
Soyuz safely launches NASAs oldest American astronaut and two Russian cosmonauts enroute to ISS (9/11/24)
Pick one. Him or Russia.

(12,790 posts)It sounds like a "Be in Washington on January 6th -- WILL BE WILD!" dog whistle to Trump's insane cult. It's like they're counting on at least one of his million supporters to take action.
We'll see. I bet in the next several days we'll hear T***p complain, "They've tried to assassinate me twice and they haven't done it even once to Kamala."
