Trump Says That if He Loses, 'the Jewish People Would Have a Lot to Do' With It
Source: New York Times
Former President Donald J. Trump, speaking on Thursday at a campaign event in Washington centered on denouncing antisemitism in America, said that if I dont win this election, then the Jewish people would have a lot to do with a loss.
Mr. Trump repeated that assertion at a second event, this one focused on Israeli Americans, where he blamed Jews whom he described as voting for the enemy, for the hypothetical destruction of Israel that he insisted would happen if he lost in November.
Mr. Trump on Thursday offered an extended airing of grievances against Jewish Americans who have not voted for him. He repeated his denunciation of Jews who vote for Democrats before suggesting that the Democratic Party had a hold, or curse, on Jewish Americans and that he should be getting 100 percent of Jewish votes because of his policies on Israel.

(7,044 posts)Trump only got 30% of the Jewish vote nationally in 2020. You'd think he would want to improve his percentage in Florida. 30% of 665 thousand is about 200 thousand votes. He could lose a lot of that vote with his head-up-rectum rhetoric.
Every vote he loses would most likely go into the Harris/Walz total, so if he lost 75K more votes on the Republican side this November, it would be a gain of 75K votes on the Democratic side, or a shift of 150K votes.
It's really stupid of him to blow off all the Jewish voters like he's doing.
And that doesn't include the votes he would lose in NY, NJ, and CA. But then those states are already deep blue. But it could cost the Republicans a few seats in the House, and possibly Rick Scott's seat in the Senate, but what does he care about that.

He is now a stale and boring act.
He will be relegated to the political scrap heap - if not jail.

Georgia, where Biden won in 2020 by 12,000 votes, is another state where the Jewish vote could make a big difference. Georgias 125,000 Jews make up just over 1% of the electorate, and 75% of them typically vote for Democrats.
...
Jews made up 3% of Nevada voters in the last presidential election, and 75% of those 41,000 voters picked Biden over Trump in 2020. Biden won the Nevada count by around 33,000 votes, so this is another race where every Jewish vote is potentially critical to the outcome.
...
With 19 electoral votes, more than any other swing state, Pennsylvania is the biggest prize among the battleground seven. Registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by about 400,000, but Biden only beat Trump there in 2020 by 80,000 votes, a 1% margin; Trump won in 2016 with an even smaller margin, about 0.5%. The states 300,000 Jews make up 3% of the electorate; two-thirds of them are Democrats, so their support is essential to a Harris win.

(1,519 posts)Republican voting Jews aren't stupid. They know there are Christians that only support Israel because of the religious view you're referring to.
They know that Christians, especially Catholics, have had a long and durable history of antisemitism that continues to this day. They also know that Muslims have a long and durable history of antisemitism that continues to this day and are, at best, trying to re-implement the historic system of religiously mandated oppression against Jews in the Jewish homeland or, at worst, trying to do the thing they say they're trying to do and killing all Jews.
This isn't some kind of concealed logic. If you talk to any American Jew that feels strongly about Israel you will learn this. If they believe the Republican characterizations of Democrats regarding Israel then they will tend to vote for Republicans. Historically, most don't, which is why Jews have been one of the most reliable D voting demographics.
I think the important takeaway from this is that when Trump and other Republicans say things like this they're trying to convince people that the Republican characterization of Democrats regarding Israel is true. The correct rhetorical response is not "hey republicans hate you too". It's "no, these characterizations are false and Democrats strongly support the existence of Israel".

I fail to see how the Biden/Harris Admin has been bad for Israel. They've been steadfast in support (to their own electoral peril) where the rest of the planet has wavered.

(566 posts)Trump's claim to have done something for American Jews is primarily based on his moving the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, committing the US govt to recognizing Jerusalem as the permanent capital of Israel - something Jews did, a lot of Americans did, but the UN refused to do. It was touching but to suppose that this shackles American Jews to him suggests the canard that American Jews are more loyal to Israel than to America, or, at least, that a favor done for Israel counts for more than what he had done in America as far as Jewish voters care.
The next thing about his threat to blame Jews if he loses the election is that all his Gentile supporters will have a recognizable minority group to punish for his defeat. This includes the Trump supporters who are were carrying tiki torches and swastika flags in Charlottesville, and others of that ilk. This may mean violence against American Jews and Jewish institutions.
