Scoop: Harris, Trump in talks with "60 Minutes"

Source: Axios

Vice President Harris and former President Trump are both considering "60 Minutes" interviews that would air back-to-back on Oct. 7 as a campaign grand finale, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: With Trump ruling out a second debate with Harris, the CBS News juggernaut — which remains the nation's top-rated news show, drawing 11 million viewers last week for its 57th-season premiere — would give the campaigns one last mass audience, 29 days before Election Day.

The Harris campaign is in active talks with "60 Minutes." Trump sources say an interview is TBD.

  • But a source familiar with the Trump negotiations teased: "Nobody gets ratings like President Donald J. Trump."

  • Flashback: In 2020, a "60 Minutes" episode featuring interviews with Trump and Joe Biden drew 17.4 million viewers — the show's biggest audience in over two years.

  • The Trump-Harris debate on Sept. 10 was watched by 67.1 million viewers across 17 networks, according to Nielsen's tally.

You wonder why I am voting democratic. I love democracy.

Brutal dictatorships are like Russia. The republican party is advocating dictatorship and fascism.

If you ever read the GOP-Project 2025 written by the Heritage Foundation [ a republican organization] States the removal of Education, forces you to be a member of the Evangelical church [converted into America’s religion]. Takes away medical assistance, Social Security gone, no more elections.

Read project 2025, it is the Republican party policies especially before you go to vote.

A raw interview would probably be deemed dead air as jazz lips weaves his way through it. No fact checking is a given.

I’m sure VP Harris’s segment would be fine and informative. However, I don’t see any political advantage for the campaign other than free airtime.

I don’t think this race is a close as they are saying, however it is the bs shenanigans they are pulling in Georgia and other states that are concerning. They can’t win without cheating.

Don't expect lazy media to fact check or push back his lies. She has to pre-bunk/pre-but all his usual lies with real statistics and facts. Then the media will repeat it all day long just like they are doing it against 2xMLK.

She also needs to address Trump's fake allegation why she did not do those things in last 3 and half years!

They're voting early because they have already made up their minds. The target now needs to be "undecideds," which is mainly people who haven't been paying much attention yet.

because remember, people are not only voting for President but also for down-ballot races, just like what we saw with the lunatic in NC, now with his ties to 45 well established (that they are trying to scuttle), and that may ultimately impact the 45 vote there.

Trump and Harris consider 60 Minutes interviews that would air on same day: report

And 10 days ago, AP had a story on the possibility -

CBS’ ‘60 Minutes’ plans its presidential candidate showcase. But will Trump and Harris show?

    By DAVID BAUDER
    Updated 9:01 AM EDT, September 12, 2024

NEW YORK (AP) — “60 Minutes” is scheduling its quadrennial interview special with the presidential candidates to air in less than a month, hoping for the best even after its session with former President Donald Trump went off the rails in 2020.

With no other debates between Trump and his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, currently scheduled after Tuesday’s event in Philadelphia, a “60 Minutes” sitdown would represent one of the few times left for voters to evaluate the two candidates back to back. The Sunday newsmagazine wants to do it on Monday, Oct. 7, since CBS is airing the American Music Awards the night before.

Neither candidate has yet agreed to appear but their campaigns have been talking to CBS, said Bill Owens, executive producer of “60 Minutes.” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said “stay tuned” when asked about his candidate’s plans. The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to an inquiry from The Associated Press.

“I’m confident that this is going to work,” Owens said. “For either campaign, it wouldn’t be a great look if they turned down an opportunity to be on ‘60 Minutes.’”

So this is something that was floated awhile ago (and apparently has happened every 4 years in the past before the election programming got upended this year). So I guess Axios has heard some "buzz".

and make sure the PACS supporting Harris are saying the nastiest things in commercials about Dump and the Republicans they can. Start with the streaming services like Youtube. Dump has given them ample shit to remind America won't be great at all if he's ever allowed power again.

Not sure where you are but here in PA (and at least in Philly), that is what has been happening. The campaign's ads have focused on what they can do for people and the various PACs have been doing the Project 2025 stuff and especially the abortion stuff.

This is just the TV ads. I expect that some of the streaming ads may be using cookies to determine where the viewer is and is targeting certain ads to certain viewers.

I actually was able to move the fingers fast enough to snapshot some ads on CNN's webpage that were running in their "live stream" window. Similarly I got a screenshot of ABC News and an add in their "ABC News Live" window.

I have seen few 45 ads here in Philly (although I block ads anyway but there are some that still come through when streaming) and whatever does manage to come through is far outnumbered at least 5 - 1 with Harris (or related PAC) ads.

So the distribution is uneven to say the least.

He is completely incoherent, incapable of answering any question meaningfully. If they correct him each time he lies, he won't agree to it (those interviews are prerecorded, they are not live). If they don't, then it will just be a sixty-minute stream of lies that the viewers will have to figure out. Since most people do not pay attention or are too lazy to fact check, it will instead be a free sixty-minute propaganda disinformation operation.
