The Pentagon says it wants to prevent Iran from spreading the conflict in the Middle East

The U.S. wants to stop Iran and its allies from spreading conflict in the Middle East following the killing of Hezbollah’s leader in Lebanon, the Pentagon said on Sunday.

“Secretary Austin stressed that the United States is determined to prevent Iran and Iranian-backed partners and proxies from exploiting the situation or expanding the conflict,” Pentagon Press Secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a statement. “Secretary Austin made clear that should Iran, its partners, or its proxies use this moment to target American personnel or interests in the region, the United States will take every necessary measure to defend our people.”

The statement comes amid concerns that conflict could spread further across the Middle East and spark a wider war after Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon last week. Israel’s military has indicated that it is preparing to invade southern Lebanon and said Sunday it had launched additional raids on targets in Lebanon.

The Department of Defense also said it “continues to maintain a significant amount of capability in the region and to dynamically adjust our force posture based on the evolving security situation.”

1. Iran won't risk it's own nation.

Gaza and Beirut reduced to rubble is something they are willing to sacrifice.

But not one brick in Tehran.

They will do nothing while Israel systematically destroys their proxies, committing war crimes and ethnic cleansing bordering on genocide with the approval of the West. Maybe a tut-tut here and there about settler terrorists in East Jerusalem and the West Bank but any real dissent will get you blackballed, a million dollar primary opponent, or deported in the United States.

Israel is not fucking around and we will watch them starve children and cheer.

Israel will never stop. They think they have a right to all ancient Zion borders that existed 2000 years ago. Because, you know, "god" said it.

And if Israelis think that evangelical christo-fascists love them, they are sadly mistaken. They think this is armageddon and will bring back their messiah. 2. There was a sort of shaky detente region wide until 10/7/23. Every time these "stable" situations break into warfare...

...the cycle is more violent/deadly than the last and destabilizes well beyond the region. Remember when all Palestinian youth had was rocks and burning tires and Molotov cocktails? Yeah, then it was AKs and RPGs and now it is weaponized drones and ballistic missiles. The IDF can kill some, but breeds hatred 10 fold. I pity all in the region as this is a death and threat spiral that will not soon lead to anyplace most of us would want to live --under a dark cloud that is the next war cloud to break and spill its deadly rain and terror.

as we ............... enable and cheer expansion of the conflict. The lies get to be beyond bizarre. Gaslighting the world but the world isn't really all falling for it. As usual the countries who call out or object to it and the ones who have given recognition to Palestine will be targeted by intelligence services and will receive economic pressure as well.
