Group's ads encourage GOP voters in Nebraska to step away from Trump

Source: Nebraska Examiner

By: Aaron Sanderford - September 30, 2024 5:45 am

OMAHA — The text messages started popping onto cell phones in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District last week, with words and videos tailored to appeal to a slice of Republican voters who might be squeamish about voting for former President Donald Trump.

The texts are part of a $500,000 digital and streaming media advertising push in the Omaha-based swing district — part of a $15 million national effort in swing states to chip away at the margins of Trump’s advantage with conservative voters.

One of the texts, from a man identifying himself as Clint, said he wants “a better world for his two daughters,” so he is voting for Vice President Kamala Harris. It said he previously voted for Trump.

The core of his message is that he can’t support a candidate who treats women the way Trump has. He says, “Trump hates women. He treats women like garbage.” The ad’s designers told the Examiner they aim to give GOP voters permission to vote for someone else.

... but they don't want Chump back in the White House and they're not voting for him. However they don't want to tell their friends and co-workers because of fear and backlash.

That's OK, they don't have to say it out loud. They also don't have to fly big banners on their pickup trucks, or wear those silly red hats.

"Chump" is not their favorite football team. He's not a religion either. He's a weak, old politician that will be out of favor in a very short time.
