Wisconsin DOJ now leading investigation into drop box removal by Wausau Mayor Doug Diny

Source: Wausau Daily Herald

WAUSAU – The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation will be serving as lead investigator on the Sept. 22 removal of the absentee ballot drop box by Wausau Mayor Doug Diny.

The state-level investigation was confirmed Thursday morning via email by the Wisconsin Office of the Attorney General. The drop box was returned to its regular location on Monday.

The investigation comes after City Clerk Kaitlyn Bernarde made two reports of an election irregularity on Sept. 23 and Sept. 27. The Portage County Sheriff’s Department was deployed for the initial investigation, according to a Friday news release from Marathon County District Attorney Theresa Wetzsteon.

On Wednesday, a group of four Wausau residents delivered a formal request to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Wisconsin, according to a release from the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. Marathon County Supervisor Randy Radtke, who represents District 10, was one of the residents named in the request.

These people shouldn’t just be disgraced, they should be permanently branded as the criminals they are.

and I'm pretty sure Portage County is close to Marathon County? Maybe he lives in one and works in another?? Did he travel with the mailbox? I think Stevens Point is in Portage County.

Pretty conservative area ... who knows what they're up to there. Hope they throw the book at him.

(Portage however is not). You wouldn't think the mayor of Wausau would live in the next county over. Maybe you are right about the drop box fleeing the county. I wonder if Portage and Marathon Counties have an extradition agreement.

In Wisconsin, it is customary for an area county to investigate matters that involve county and city employees. Now, however, the Wisconsin DOJ has taken over the investigation. The mayor can’t keep his stories straight.

may I ask why you've been a DU member for a dozen years and have yet to reach ten posts? Honestly, I am very curious.
