Former President Barack Obama endorsed Florida Senate candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell on Friday, becoming the latest national Democrat to get involved in what is expected to be a tight race in the red-leaning state.
This is your chance, Florida. Elect a woman who will make your life better and fight for freedoms like the right to choose, Obama said in a video released exclusively to The Hill.
The former president highlighted the former congresswomans background, noting that she grew up under a dictatorship in Ecuador and went from working in a donut shop for minimum wage to serving in Congress. Debbies story isnt typical, but then, neither was mine. And maybe in this election, thats exactly what we need, Obama said.
Obamas backing of a Democratic Senate candidate is not surprising but it comes as national Democrats increasingly turn to their sites on ousting incumbent Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.).

(50,894 posts)Mucarsel-Powell is not a candidate for the "Florida Senate".
Try 'She is a Florida candidate for the Senate' (when no state is written adjacent to "Senate", the US Senate is always implied).
Or 'Obama endorsed Florida candidate Mucarsel-Powell for the US Senate.' Essentially the same number of words but it is clear and free of cognitive ambiguity.

(7,883 posts)I sent $$$ a week ago. Looked up the Republicans I truly hate and sent their D opponents $$$. I HATE Rick Scott, so one of my donations went to Debbie Mucarsel-Powell.
Send $$$ now. In a week or two it is going to be too late.
