Green Party presidential candidate files suit over Ohio decision not to count votes for her

Source: AP

Updated 3:58 PM EDT, October 12, 2024

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein has filed a lawsuit in federal court over the decision of Ohio election officials not to count votes for her after her running mate was named by the national party after a state administrative deadline.

Cleveland.com reports that the lawsuit was filed Wednesday in U.S. district court in Columbus by Stein, the person named as her running mate on the state ballot and three Ohio voters. It alleges that the decision infringes on their constitutional rights to free speech, association, and equal protection and the voting rights of the Ohio-based plaintiffs.

Stein filed as an independent presidential candidate in Ohio because the Green Party lost state recognition several years ago. She listed Anita Rios — the Green Party’s 2014 nominee for Ohio governor — as her running mate as a placeholder until the Green Party nominated Butch Ware to run with Stein at their national convention in August.

The Ohio Secretary of State’s Office granted a request to remove Rios from the ballot but said Ware’s name couldn’t be added because the state deadline to replace an independent vice presidential candidate on the 2024 ballot had passed. Office spokesperson Dan Lusheck told Cleveland.com that Stein’s name will still appear on state ballots, which were already being sent to overseas and military voters, but votes for her would not count.

because her intent is to pull in naive (D) / (I) votes on behalf of (R) candidates. But given that OH has voted (R) for President the last 2 elections (2016 & 2020), then it makes you wonder how swingy it could be, if she is battling to get back on like this (although we know Sherrod is up for Senate there).

Shitbag Thomas was helicoptered into St. Petersburg after all. The Heritage Foundation was well aware of that visit. Stein was at a luncheon with the mass murderer himself. He'd already seized land from Ukraine at the point. Bombed civilians indiscriminately. Helping trump while claiming to be "green"? I could go on for hours. She's horrible.

All of them are hard-core anti-war people who think the Democratic Party is complicit in genocide. They're very far to the left of even the most moderate Republican.

I've done what I can to explain just how selfish a decision to vote for a third-party candidate really is. I've gotten nowhere.

They put their own ideological purity above everyone else's well being. And then they say it's our fault for not meeting their demands.

Very, very selfish.

Of course I voted for Kamala, but there were several third party or independent candidates listed.

"For President
Jill Stein
For Vice President
Anita Rios
Other Party"

Was listed. Not sure what would happen if someone voted for this ticket?

The Greens have virtually no chance of winning anything in our current system. She is deluding herself to believe these efforts are anything other than part of a vanity campaign.

And I don't think she is deluded about that, she just doesn't care, like the idiots who vote for her.

And yes... you're correct... of COURSE she knows what she's doing.

And so did Sarandon, and Michael Moore, and Nina Turner... they ALL knew that the Green candidate had ZERO chance of winning. Just as the knew that a vote for Stein (or even earlier, Nader) would benefit the GOP. They knew it, they didn't care.
