House Republicans attempt to avoid 2022 letdown with new tactic on abortion: 'We're both pro-choice'

Source: CNN Politics

Washington CNN — Republicans in the nation’s toughest House districts are making a major pivot on abortion with a surprising result — they’re starting to sound like Democrats.

GOP candidates in suburbs of places like Tucson, Des Moines and Syracuse are going public with vows never to criminalize abortion or support a national ban. Some are going further: Rep. John Duarte of California’s Central Valley, Rep. Tom Kean Jr. in northern New Jersey and GOP candidate Matt Gunderson in the San Diego area have all described themselves as “pro choice” — with the latter even speaking directly to camera in his first TV ad and borrowing Bill Clinton’s phrase calling for the procedure to be “safe, legal and rare.”

In this fall’s toss-up battle for the House, swing-seat Republicans are carefully rebranding themselves on abortion after largely failing to respond to relentless Democratic attacks that cost the GOP big last cycle. And they’re attempting to neutralize the Democrats’ most potent attack — all in an effort to turn voters’ attention to the US-Mexico border and other galvanizing issues.

“Since we’re both pro-choice, then we have an opportunity to take that conversation, set it aside and have a real serious conversation about solving the border, about inflation, the economy, jobs, crime, education,” Gunderson said in an interview, referring to his opponent, Democratic Rep. Mike Levin. It may be easier said than done.

First law about abortion since Roe v. Wade 1973

If rwnj liars are elected to a majority in 2024, there will be a nationwide ban by Feb 2025. And then other women's and minorities' rights denied in quick succession.

They will vote for a national fetal personhood law that will, in essence, make abortion murder.

...if they do they'd need to commit to not supporting anti abortion, anti Roe judges. Conservative judges are as big of a problem as laws by congress.

Do you mean "rare" as in "you have good gynecological care from doctors who have not been forced out of state. AND you are never raped? AND you have the means to afford good gyn care?"

We need a discussion around the word "rare."

I am trying to be calm.

Whatever Repuke now lying about being "pro choice" is utterly useless.
They will be hopelessly outnumbered by the Nazis wanting complete control over women.

1. Outlaw abortion. Check.
2. Outlaw contraception. In progress.
3. Revoke the 19th Amendment. Coming to a fascist dictatorship near you.
4. Life in prison for ANYONE even remotely associated with an abortion. Women, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, grandma giving you a ride, etc...*

* Note: The ONLY person who will not be held culpable is the male who caused the pregnancy in the first place. Unless, of course, he drives the woman to an underground clinic. Then he'll spend life in prison.
