Federal and local law enforcement and officials in Washington, D.C., are ramping up preparations to ensure a safe and peaceful transfer of power on Jan. 6, 2025, and on Inauguration Day.
In September, the Department of Homeland Security designated Jan. 6 a National Special Security Event (NSSE) and approved D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser's request for additional federal resources.
The District is anticipating that there will be no declared winner on election night and, We could enter a period where we have pervasive misinformation and disinformation about the outcome of the election, D.C. Assistant City Administrator Chris Rodrigez warned on Tuesday.
For a period, perhaps days or weeks, where the country, and in many respects the world, will be sitting and waiting for the declared winner, he added.

(11,982 posts)With Biden as president, the National Guard will be on alert and available. Where Republicans are more likely to use violence is in key precincts in swing states Trump needs to win. If they can prevent election workers from counting votes and submitting them to the state, they will. Fortunately, we have Democratic governors in key states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Pennsylvania and theyre most likely preparing their own National Guard for Republican threats and violence. I think Governor Kemp would also not support violence in Georgia.

(4,223 posts)I dont doubt that there will be civil unrest at or around Jan. 6th. but realizing how many protesters are still being arrested and jailed, I believe that the situation will not become as chaotic an event as we fear. I believe that there will be pockets of resistance, more so in our southern states but that they will be contained in short order. Guerilla warfare by radical good old boys will satisfy their cowboy shoot em up dreams but in the long run, if we are to maintain a peaceful society, it will be controlled.

(14,383 posts)Unlike Jan 6th, where Republicans had no proof of a "steal". What if there are shenagingans in swing states where R Governors or SoS are crying foul and rejecting a Harris win. Or gangs of brown shirts disrupt voting stations in districts where Harris has slim leads going in, thus nullifying them. However they do it, they manage to......on paper......find a way to declare him the winner.
At least to the point that any court challenges will take beyond the 20th of January to resolve. And after that, nothing matters of course.
What I'm asking is....what if its us that raises hell on the streets? Or demands that Harris NOT certify? Are we going to just stand down and allow a Fascist takeover?
