Bill Gates has given $50m to Kamala Harris campaign: 'This election is different'

Source: The Independent

Microsoft founder Bill Gates has reportedly donated $50m to the Harris campaign, saying that despite his previously apolitical stance “this election is different.”

The donation was supposed to be private but the billionaire later confirmed his support to the New York Times, though he has not endorsed the vice president publicly.

“I support candidates who demonstrate a clear commitment to improving health care, reducing poverty and fighting climate change in the US and around the world,” Gates said, in a statement provided to the newspaper, which did not address the donation directly. “I have a long history of working with leaders across the political spectrum, but this election is different, with unprecedented significance for Americans and the most vulnerable people around the world.”

Gates, whose net worth is estimated at around $105bn according to Forbes, is currently the world’s thirteenth richest person, though has said he does not want to be seen as a “political influencer.”

2. Not at all. In fact it might be the perfect time, two weeks before the election to make the final push. There will be

a significant number of people voting in person on election day, and among those will be the undecided voter who may very well determine the outcome.

I suspect these undecided voters are comprised of mostly never trump republicans who cannot decide if they will vote for a Democrat for the first time, the uncommitted voters who are weighing the Israeli/Palestine conflict with the election, and young people who need to be motivated to find a reason to vote.

Using significant campaign money to make the final case to the voters may help motivate voters to vote for Harris-Walz in the final stretch.

3. You're right. Many of us have already voted, but there are still tens of millions who haven't.

She also originally endorsed Biden and later Harris.

PLUS she gave a "substantial donation" to Harris-Walz last month.

So both of them have pumped some money in.

But be aware that at some point there will be no way to spend it all given how much has been raised in such a short time.
