Freedom Caucus leader says North Carolina should consider giving Trump its electors before votes are counted
Source: Politico
The chair of the conservative House Freedom Caucus says the North Carolina Legislature should consider allocating the states presidential electors to Donald Trump even before votes are counted in the swing state.
Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) said Thursday that such a step by North Carolinas Republican-controlled legislature makes a lot of sense given the devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene in the western part of the state. Counties in that region are expected to vote heavily for Trump.
Potential difficulties with voting in the hurricane-damaged area would be a basis for the state Legislature to declare in advance that Trump should win the states 16 electoral votes, Harris said at a Republican Party dinner in Marylands Talbot County.
You statistically can go and say, Look, you got disenfranchised in 25 counties. You know what that vote probably would have been, Harris said during an exchange with a speaker at the dinner. Which would be if I were in the Legislature enough to go, Yeah we have to convene the legislature. We cant disenfranchise the voters.

(84,881 posts)Harris's father was Zoltán Harris, an anesthesiologist and member of a Hungarian pro-Nazi paramilitary group who was born in Miskolc, Hungary, in 1911 and emigrated to the U.S. in 1950.[3] His mother, Irene (Koczerzuk), was born in Zarice, Poland.[4][5] Harris was born in New York, grew up in Queens, and attended Regis High School in Manhattan.[6]
Harris earned his BS in biology (1977) and his MD (1980) from Johns Hopkins University. The university's Bloomberg School of Hygiene and Public Health conferred his MHS in 1995 in health policy and management and health finance and management.[4]
Harris served in the Navy Medical Corps and the U.S. Naval Reserve as a commander on active duty during Operation Desert Storm.[4] He previously worked as an anesthesiologist, an associate professor of anesthesiology and critical care medicine, and as chief of obstetric anesthesiology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Harris also served as commanding officer for the Johns Hopkins Naval Reserve Medical Unit from 1989 to 1992.[4]
