WASHINGTON, Oct 25 (Reuters) - Chinese hackers who tapped into Verizon's system targeted phones used by people affiliated with the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, a person familiar with the situation said on Friday.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, were also targeted, according to media reports. Reuters could not confirm those reports.
The New York Times reported investigators were working to determine what communications, if any, were taken from Trump and Vance.
The Trump campaign was made aware this week that Trump and Vance were among a number of people inside and outside of government whose phone numbers were targeted through the infiltration of Verizon (VZ.N), opens new tab phone systems, the Times report added.
The Trump campaign did not confirm that Trump's and Vance's phones were targeted.

(32,477 posts)The probe by the Cyber Safety Review Board will examine the lapses that allowed the hackers, who are believed to be working for a Chinese intelligence agency, to orchestrate a series of intrusions that some Biden administration officials fear amount to a major espionage coup against the U.S.
The Cyber Safety Review Board will initiate a review of this incident at the appropriate time, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman confirmed in a statement to The Wall Street Journal. DHS oversees the board, which consists of senior officials and private-sector security experts.
It wasnt clear when the board will begin its investigation. The Biden administration is still actively responding to the fallout from the intrusions into the telecommunications companies, which were first revealed by the Journal last month. Such a probe is likely to take months and would yield a public report.
