Tony Hinchcliffe doubles down on racist Trump rally jokes and hits out at critics: 'Change your tampon'
Source: The Independent
Tony Hinchcliffe, a comedian facing backlash after his remarks at Donald Trumps recent Madison Square Garden rally, is not backing away from his racist jokes. At Trumps campaign event in Manhattan on Sunday, he called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean amongst other offensive comments about Jewish and Black Americans.
Tim Walz was among those criticising the comments, branding the comedian a jackwad and recalled Trumps response to Hurricane Maria when it hit Puerto Rico in 2017. Does anybody remember how [Trump] responded to [Hurricane] Maria in Puerto Rico? It was absolutely horrific, Walz said during a Twitch livestream on Sunday. Down there, insulting people. People in Puerto Rico are citizens, they pay taxes, theyre in the military.
But Hinchcliffe has now defended himself on X and hit back at Walz. These people have no sense of humor. Wild that a vice presidential candidate would take time out of his busy schedule to analyze a joke taken out of context to make it seem racist, the co-host of Kill Tony podcast said in a Sunday X post. I love Puerto Rico and vacation there. I made fun of everyone
watch the whole set. Im a comedian Tim
might be time to change your tampon.
The tampon comment refers to a name Republicans have given Walz Tampon Tim because as Minnesota governor, he signed legislation mandating public schools in the state provide menstrual products in all bathrooms.

If somehow we could get more wing nuts to actually have a functioning sense of humor, this world would be a much happier place.

(7,676 posts)I am a man and I do have a sense of humor. The problem isn't a lack of humor, the problem is that he's an alleged comedian who doesn't know how to read a room. A good comedian would have clocked the tepid response to the Puerto Rico jab and pivoted to talking about how old Joe Biden is. You had a room that wanted to hear the oldies and then maybe dip a bit blue with Hunter's cock. You save your best incel and racial material for podcasting with Elon Musk or Joe Rogan who are the correct audience for that.
Hinchcliffe asking the world to change their metaphorical tampon (surely he doesn't mean just women) means "something's wrong with you; it's not my fault you don't find me funny." If I change my metaphorical tampon I'll feel better and giggle and think that joke was funny Nope. Madison Square Garden, allegedly near-capacity with Republicans and rightwing MAGA in your favor didn't laugh.
He worked on that island of garbage joke opener. It's a level one "bait and switch" joke format that would be funny if you filled in the mad-lib cleverly. The joke was just wrong, and he said it: Puerto Rico is awesome, but racism is not. He was very proud of that. Good comedians know you don't punch down - not as the first joke. And you don't laugh in frustration at your own joke if you truly believe you were funny. What a chance of a lifetime he had at Madison Square Garden at an official event and walks out making jokes like he's on a podcast with Joe Rogan and Elon Musk. A good comedian would have been better at reading the room and could have recovered.
Unless Hinchcliffe thought he was the warmup comedian and he wouldn't be broadcast. Still no excuse for sucking at your art.

(2,399 posts)Here he was representing and warming up the crowd for a person he wanted to be the President of the United States. That I think would have most people, most comedians, anyone who had gotten anywhere, thinking carefully about putting their best foot forward.
He was using his best material and this was what he came up with. Wow. The crew that filtered this and put it on the teleprompter thought this was great material and worthy of a presidents intro. They all figured that kicking down with racist tones was a great warm up and a great idea. They all chuckled over this.
Even after the response, after he kicked down and basically said that large groups were trash, he is now upset that we did not get the joke. We got the joke. We entirely got the joke. The problem here is that not only did he think this was "A" material, but he still thinks it is "A" material. His target audience agreed with him and this makes all of them look really bad.
It is sad when a good artist shows problems. It puts us all in a position where we debate between the worth of the art and the monstrosity of the artists crime. A lot of us have issues with Cosby, Jackson and the guy who played Kramer. There are others on the list. In this case though, Tony never produced anything that any of us will regret the damage done to art. It is pathetic that he managed to get his five minutes and toss it away in this manner.
He did not make fun of everyone, like he said he did, he left white racist angry idiots off the list of people he wanted to insult. He did not make fun of White Supremacists, Nazis or Fascists.

He's like a playground bully calling names and laughing his ass off at himself.
Straight up racist name calling and tropes aren't funny. And like other right-wingnuts, he completely clueless about satire. Remember FOX's failed attempt at a far right Daily Show? An article discussing that failure pointed out that satire
This is why historically, satire has been a tool of the powerless and the marginalized. We mock world leaders, governments, and oppressive traditions not only because its amusing, but because its a way of calling out corruption and incompetence among those who have the most control over our lives.
...satire entails a considerable power imbalance between speaker and target and usually comes from the bottom up. This is why, as Jezebel writer Lindy West points out, at company parties its the boss whos roasted, not the custodian. For people in positions of power to mock their subordinates isnt funny, its tasteless.

Tony Hinchcliffe was married to Charlotte Jane; he is currently single
Tony kept referring to Jane as his wife throughout 2018. The pair rarely posted about each other on social media. The world learned about the pairs separation after Jane deleted all evidence of her relationship with Tony from her Instagram page, replacing it with images of her new lover.
Ouch, that's gotta hurt.

But NOT anymore.
And if this can bring us their votes, just like the racism and bigotry that 45's campaign has engaged in and spewed in order to bring out HIS racists and bigots to vote, then we need to do this and keep harping on it.
The BLUE VOTES need to come from EVERYWHERE and it sometimes take some drastic stuff to get through to those who tune out.
