PAY YOUR BILLS

Donald Trump had trouble finding a place to hold Thursdays rally in Albuquerque, New Mexico, after his campaign stiffed the city almost $445,000 the last time it was in town, the Santa Fe New Mexican reported.
Originally event organizers wanted to hold the former presidents rally at the Albuquerque Convention Center, but the city refused to even consider it because the campaign still has an outstanding bill from a similar event in 2019. If youre not going to pay your bills, were just not going to entertain you using city facilities, and thats the way it should be, Mayor Tim Keller, a Democrat, said during a press conference.
The campaign then found a venue at a private airplane hangar and wanted to shuttle rally goers from a public parking lot at an outdoor amphitheater. But the proposed parking arrangement was shut down because of the details of the contract that governs the lots subleases. The Trump campaign responded in its usual calm, measured way, accusing officials of electoral interference.
State Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard wrote back, Setting aside your highly-charged partisan letter with unfounded accusations
I would like to take this opportunity to clarify the facts for you, and attached a copy of the contract. Now the campaign is using several parking lots in different parts of the city and encouraging rally goers to use Uber. A win for the gig economy.
Read it at Santa Fe New Mexican

ha ha . This is a laugh!! I wonder how many fans will actually get to the rally?????
But what is not a laugh, is Trumps nasty response to city officials. Damn, trump sucks.

(20,713 posts)It hasn't gone GOP for POTUS in 20 years. It only has 5 electoral votes. It's one of the states that's getting less Anglo by the minute. I just don't get it.

(1,446 posts)2 of the 3 are pretty much solid Dem these days- District 1 (Melanie Ann Stansbury) and District 3 (Teresa Leger Fernandez).
The remaining District 2 has always been a back and forth fight. Right now it is a Dem (Gabriel Vasquez) running against Repub (Yvette Herrell).
This one House race may be tight.
The Senate seat is also being contested. Currently Democrat Martin Heinrich running against Repub Nells Domenici (as described in Reply #9 by TygrBright). Martin should have it.

Rep Gabe Vasquez has a good lead over Herrill. Domenici is expected to lose to incumbent Martin Heinrich.
ABQ has an excellent mayor, Tim Keller. Would love to see him as gov, sen or rep.

(20,987 posts)Pete Domenici's daughter, who hasn't actually lived in, or been involved in any state governance in New Mexico but still has an address here, is running against Martin Heinrich, on the strength of the Domenici name.
Given how desperate the GOP is getting to protect their presumed Senate control, it's not surprising they wheedled him into a NM appearance, but I don't think it's necessarily going to be helpful.
The Domenici name is still one to conjure with here, but Senator Heinrich is well-liked and has a strong incumbency advantage.
This is a real Heil Mary.
So to speak...

(17,501 posts)There are only so many ubers. Surge pricing will be in full force. And cars will be scarce.
You just cant move thousands of people with uber in a reasonable amount of time.

(13,606 posts)What are the chances that thousands would actually need to be moved around?

I also wonder if the people thinking about attending will remember what happened last time trump had a rally where there was no parking and decide not to bother going.

The Congressional race is closer, but the second district is large and a great deal of it is far from ABQ. All 3 districts touch on the Albuquerque metro area, but voters along the Mexican border, all of which is in District 2, will have quite a drive.
