Trump says 'war hawk' Liz Cheney should be fired upon in escalation of violent rhetoric against his opponents
Source: CNN
Donald Trump said former Rep. Liz Cheney is a "war hawk" who should be fired upon, as he raged against one of his most prominent intra-party critics while campaigning Thursday night in Arizona.
"She's a radical war hawk. Let's put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, OK?" the former president said at a campaign event in Glendale with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. "Let's see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face."
Trump also hurled insults at Cheney, once the third-ranking Republican in House leadership, calling her "very dumb," a "stupid person" and "the moron."
Trump's suggestion that Cheney be fired upon represents an escalation of the violent language he has used to target his political foes. And it comes days before an election in which the former president -- who never accepted his 2020 loss -- has already undermined public confidence. In recent weeks, he has also suggested a military crackdown on political opponents he has described as "the enemy within."

And from the NYTimes:
His language reflects the charged environment surrounding this year's election. Democrats and some Republicans have increasingly warned that Mr. Trump exhibits authoritarian tendencies, with Ms. Harris recently calling him a "fascist." Mr. Trump and his allies have argued that such language has fueled an overheated political climate that they argue has led to political violence, ignoring that Mr. Trump has long used similar language to describe Democrats.
Throughout Thursday night's interview, Mr. Trump's third event of the day, he gave a series of rambling answers in which he flung personal insults at his critics, at one point relived his 2016 presidential campaign and used dark language to make exaggerated claims about immigration.
. . . .If Ronald Reagan came back from the dead at the height of Ronald Reagan, if he went to California to have a rally, he would have 250, 300 people in a ballroom some place, Mr. Trump told the crowd. We have fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety, a hundred thousand people. .

MSNBC "way too early is covering this, and Morning Joe is starting right now, and highlights the Drudge Report "trump calls for Cheney execution"
This should be the headline on every MSM newspaper outlet.
and to think that Jeff Bezo and the owner of the LA Times won't let their editorial staff make a presidential endorsement, knowing that each editorial's staff was ready with a VP Kamala Harris endorsement.
These two newspaper's owners are morally bankrupt.
This should disqualify him right now. The weekend before the general election.
In 2016 the weekend before the general election, after an entire week of parading every right wing pundit across the MSM outlets pushing the LIE that the email investigation was reopened, and when late Friday the weekend before the 2016 general election, Comey quietly came out and said there was no NEW information to reopen the email investigation, which the this same MSM who had been pushing the "email investigation" LIE 24/7, hardly mentioned Comey's remarks that there was no new information.

(51,560 posts)Trump is running to become Americas first tyrannical despot. The owners of the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times know this better than you do - after all, they have access to the AP wire. (I have seen the AP wire because I work for a newspaper. If everything on it was put in a newspaper wed have to give out free forklifts with every subscription so the readers could bring their newspaper inside.)
Who the hell would be able to stop him if Trump decided to round up everyone working at a newspaper and have them executed for the crime of working for a paper? They say absolute power corrupts absolutely and Trump is already as corrupt as any third world dictator. Besides, what the hell good would endorsing Harris do? Shes already going to win LA and DC.

(18,855 posts)But I am disturbed. His rhetoric is getting darker and scarier every day. He's always been big on threatening people, of course, but he didn't always paint such vividly graphic scenarios as this. This feels very different to me from telling people to go to the Capitol and "fight like hell," for example.
I see this as further evidence of his deteriorating cognitive state. He's clearly exhibiting disinhibition due to in his dementia. It may not be quite as obvious with him as it would be with some people, because we're so used to him saying outrageous things, but to me, this dramatic, detailed description of a specific individual facing a firing squad is a whole different level of outrageous.
The GOP should be deeply ashamed of the way they are enabling this profoundly mentally ill individual to endanger the future of this country while making a public display of his illness in the process. Unfortunately, the party seems to have lost any capacity for shame. Smdh

(13,538 posts)The fact that he still polls in the high 40's despite inciting an insurrection, felony convictions, endless lies, racism, Nazi rhetoric, incoherent rambling, and so many from his own administration warning he is a threat to our Constitution and dangerously unfit for office ......
That will be to the everlasting shame of American voters and a media environment which put profits ahead of responsibility to accurately inform.

(21,960 posts)So arrogant that hes not hiding anything anymore. Ive said it over and over that ever since I heard him start in with his nonsense nine years ago, this guy wants to be a modern day Adolf Hitler.
By now anyone with half a brain should be able to see that. If you cant see it now, the main impediment outside of possibly low intelligence, is your ego wont let you admit what an absolutely dangerous person this man is.
In my opinion, if he loses the election with all of his outrageous behavior, especially as of late, the judge and or judges who sentence this guy should send him, just like any other person thats behaved the way he has, in determining his sentence, to prison. What the judge should not do, is cut him a deal just because he was president at one time.
ShazzieB
(18,855 posts)He absolutely needs to be locked up, but I think he belongs in a maximum-security forensic psychiatric hospital, rather than a regular prison, because he clearly has a terminal psychiatric disease (dementia) that requires medical treatment and will only get worse until he dies.
Yes, he's committed serious crimes, and he was capable of understanding what he was doing at the time he did those things, but he is going to reach a point where he will no longer be capable of comprehending what he did wrong or why he should be punished, and he is already at a stage where his behavior and ability to function even semi-independently are deteriorating as we speak. We don't know how much help he already needs to perform the activities of daily living (i.e. dressing and feeding himself, bathing, going to the bathroom, etc.), but whatever level he's at now, it's just a matter of time before he becomes incapable of doing anything for himself.
I know some will probably think I'm being too "soft" on him, but I don't really care. He has a terminal disease that has already robbed him of much of his cognitive ability as well as his ability to control his own behavior, and it's eventually going to rob him of his ability to do anything for himself at all. What I'm suggesting is not just for his benefit, but for the befit of the staff of whatever prison he would otherwise be sent to. Person guards can't be expected to feed him, dress him, and change his diapers when he's no longer able to do those things for himself. That's not in their job description or their expected skill set. To me, it just makes sense to send him directly to a facility that is equipped to handle those things and to administer the medical care he is going to require eventually. He'll never get out out, because he'll never get better, and he won't like it any more he would like being on a prison cell.
To anyone who thinks he's faking all of this stuff in order to avoid going to jail, I have this to say: poppycock. He isn't nearly smart enough to engineer all of this, and the idea of of him being willing to publicly admit that he's defective in any way is laughable. He'll probably continue to insist that he's a "very stable genius to the bitter end.

(11,505 posts)This needs to be prosecuted immediately. It's solicitation of a violent crime.
You cannot ask someone to shoot at someone else. That's like hiring a hit man or asking a hit man to kill your enemy. It's illegal.
Cheney needs to contact the DA of that state and get them to bring charges. This is straight up illegal.
Do you think if I spoke at an event and said that Trump needs to be shot at and rifles should be pointed in his face, that I wouldn't be charged? No way I wouldn't be seeing the inside of a jail.
Man oh man, we really have acclimated to Trump asking for violence and murder.

(11,505 posts)You can't solicit a crime of violence.
"Whoever, with intent that another person engage in conduct constituting a felony that has as an element the use, attempted use, or threatened use of physical force against property or against the person of another in violation of the laws of the United States, and under circumstances strongly corroborative of that intent, solicits, commands, induces, or otherwise endeavors to persuade such other person to engage in such conduct, shall be imprisoned."

Trump needs to be prosecuted. You can not solicit violence and shooting at a person. It's like trying to hire a hit man.
