In the final days of the presidential campaign, the Democratic National Committee is targeting rural voters in Georgia and North Carolina through a six-figure paid media blitz, per an announcement first shared with Axios.
Why it matters: Polling shows Vice President Harris and former President Trump locked in a dead heat in the two southern battlegrounds. If Harris is able to chip away at Trump's advantage with rural voters, it could give her a boost in the key states.
A CNN poll conducted by SSRS earlier this week found Trump and Harris effectively tied in both Georgia and North Carolina. In both states, Harris holds an advantage among voters who say they live in an urban area, while Trump has a similar edge among voters in rural areas, per CNN.
Driving the news: The latest "I Will Vote" campaign, launching on Saturday, will run in 15 rural counties in the two key battlegrounds, including in counties in the historic "Black Belt."
The campaign includes a radio ad, narrated by DNC Chair Jaime Harrison, and a billboard campaign that highlights Harris' plan for rural America. Harrison, who is from South Carolina narrates the radio ad. "I grew up in a small rural town, so I know that our rural communities deserve investment," he says in the 30-second ad. "Democrats are investing in rural America fighting for lower costs and affordable health care while supporting rural hospitals."
Zoom in: The DNC's 'I Will Vote' campaign seeks to give voters up-to-date information on polling locations. Recent ad buys as part of the campaign have been directed towards Native American and LGBTQ voters.

(3,310 posts)North Carolina is one of the few states that has a large minority population that lives in rural areas. The northeastern part of the state has a lot of rural Black voters, and the inland counties that border South Carolina have a lot of rural Black and Native voters.
It's good to see some attention paid to those areas. In statewide races, every vote counts, so it's been a mistake in the past to ignore those areas.
