Harris goes to church while Trump muses about reporters being shot

Vice President Kamala Harris told a Michigan church on Sunday that God offers America a "divine plan strong enough to heal division," while former President Donald Trump gave a profane and conspiracy-laden speech in which he mused about reporters being shot and labeled Democrats as "demonic."

The two major candidates took starkly different tones on the final Sunday of the campaign. Less than 48 hours before Election Day, Harris, the Democratic vice president, argued that Tuesday's election offers voters the chance to reject "chaos, fear and hate," while Trump, the Republican former president, repeated lies about voter fraud to try to cast doubt on the integrity of the vote and suggested that the country was falling apart without him in office.

Harris was concentrating her Sunday in Michigan, beginning the day with a few hundred parishioners at Detroit's Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God in Christ. It marked the fourth consecutive Sunday that Harris, who is Baptist, has spoken to a Black congregation, a reflection of how critical Black voters are across multiple battleground states.

"I see faith in action in remarkable ways," she said in remarks that quoted the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah. "I see a nation determined to turn the page on hate and division and chart a new way forward. As I travel, I see Americans from so-called red states and so-called blue states who are ready to bend the arc of history toward justice."

1. At what point do evangelicals realize that Democrats don't spontaneously combust when entering a church?

There's a big disconnect that I think is finally beginning to permeate the various evangelical movements. They've been taught Christian ideals - love they neighbor, seek peace in the world, honor they spouse and family, reject the temptations of money, have faith in God - yet somewhere along the line they've become a disciple of someone who believes that one should hate thy neighbor, cause chaos and violence, lust after the opposite sex, encourage greed and avarice and put their faith into Trump and only Trump, someone who buys bibles and puts his image all over them, and blasphemes almost as easily as he breathes.

I expect at some point that there are going to a lot of preachers looking for a new line of work as their congregations turn on them.

I can't trust a pastor who claims to preach truth, but votes for Trump.

My cinders would be cinders by now. After moving to Germany I have spent a lot of time in churches. I love the architecture. Spent hours very still at organ concerts, should have been an easy target. Laughed when a priest said his church doesn't have organ concerts because they don't have a significant organ.

Harris: I see a bright future before us!

Trump: Reminiscing about the glories of past rallies.

Like Grandpa's talk of how he did brave things in WW2 when really, he spent most of the time peeling potatoes.
