Man arrested in alleged neo-Nazi-inspired plot to destroy Nashville energy facility: DOJ

Source: ABC, DoJ

A 24-year-old Tennessee man has been arrested and charged with allegedly plotting to use a weapon of mass destruction in a neo-Nazi-inspired plot to destroy an energy facility near Nashville, the Justice Department announced Monday.

Skyler Philippi allegedly planned to attack Nashville's power grid with a drone armed with explosives after conducting extensive research into how such an attack could serve to "shock the system," as he reportedly relayed to one FBI confidential source who became aware of his plotting, prosecutors said.

The FBI first began investigating Philippi in June after a confidential source who was in touch with him reported to the FBI his alleged desire to commit a mass shooting at a YMCA near Columbia, Tennessee, according to the complaint.

Philippi allegedly repeatedly espoused his adherence to white supremacist and accelerationist ideologies which promote the idea that a destabilizing terrorist attack on something like the nation's energy sectors could serve to incite unrest that leads to civil war, according to prosecutors.

“As charged, Skyler Philippi believed he was moments away from launching an attack on a Nashville energy facility to further his violent white supremacist ideology – but the FBI had already compromised his plot,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “This case serves as yet another warning to those seeking to sow violence and chaos in the name of hatred by attacking our country’s critical infrastructure: the Justice Department will find you, we will disrupt your plot, and we will hold you accountable. I am grateful to the public servants of the FBI for their extraordinary work on this case and for the work they do every day to keep our country safe.”

“Those fueled by hate and inspired to violence by racial or ethnic bias pose a grave threat to our national security,” said Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco. “As alleged in today’s charges, Skyler Philippi, a man dedicated to white supremacist ideology and the destruction of our critical infrastructure, planned to attack Nashville’s power grid using a drone carrying an explosive device. Thanks to brave work by the FBI, his scheme was thwarted. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to identify, disrupt, and hold accountable those who seek to wage such hate-fueled violence, which has no place in America or anywhere else.”

“Driven by a racially motivated violent extremist ideology, the Defendant planned to attack the power grid with a drone and explosives, leaving thousands of Americans and critical infrastructure like hospitals without power,” said FBI Director Christopher Wray. “The FBI’s swift work led to the detection and disruption of the defendant’s plot before he could cause any damage. We are committed to holding accountable anyone who threatens the security of our critical infrastructure or seeks to harm American communities through domestic violent extremism.”

According to the affidavit supporting the criminal complaint, the term refers to an insurrectionist plot to inflict, upon an electrical substation, damage designed to trigger a cascading shutdown of all or part of the nation's power grid.

Also, I learned that the jargon term "UCE" means an undercover employee of a law enforcement agency.

Think. Again.

The term comes from analogy to spreading gasoline around before igniting arson.

Neo-nazis and white supremacists (but I repeat myself) anticipate a race war, as a certainty, just a question of when.

So the nitwits think that they (one man in this case though he thought he had a cell), a stochastic cell with an attack on a small part of one part of the infrastructure, would ignite a nationwide race war which could morph into some kind of civil war, or vice versa.

They are so wrapped up in their alternate reality tunnel vision that they become very delusional.
