Co-founder of pro-Palestinian Uncommitted movement says he will vote for Harris
From CNN's Kaanita Iyer
The co-founder of Uncommitted National Movement shared Tuesday that he will be voting for Vice President Kamala Harris as the group which ultimately decided to not endorse the Democratic nominee has warned against former President Donald Trump.
❝This is a moment where we have to look very clearly at what Donald Trump has planned for our communities and for Arab and Muslim Americans in particular, Abbas Alawieh told MSNBC, adding that as a former congressional staffer who was at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, he is no stranger the kind of violence and policy violence that Donald Trump intends to champion in our country.❞
Alawieh added in the clip shared to the groups X page that though he will vote for Harris, he hopes a coalition of voters, including those who voted for Harris, will put pressure on the next administration to break from the policy of sending of sending unconditional weapons and funding to the Israeli military.
❝He continued: The Arab American, Muslim American community for months have been oscillating between dealing with our grief, dealing with the fact that so many of our family members are there living under the bombs that our US government is sending Benjamin Netanhyahu, while also trying to do the politically savvy thing.❞

Recent signs of modest support from top members of the Uncommitted movement a grassroots anti-war effort in Michigan, whose sizeable Muslim and Arab population could be pivotal to the states outcome have given the Harris campaign reason for some optimism, according to two advisers.
The Uncommitted leaders have demanded an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and end to supplying military aid to Israel demands they made in person to Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz during a meeting in early August. The group staged a sit-in at the Democratic National Convention, where 30 members attended as delegates. And in September, Uncommitted withheld a direct endorsement from any party, a decision feared to cause its hundreds of thousands of members to withhold votes in the general election as they had in the Democratic primary.
But in the last two weeks, the movements leaders have signaled more support for Harris, with one co-chair urging other members to back Harris publicly, too.
Appearing on CNN last week, Uncommitted co-chair Abbas Alawieh said he planned to vote for Harris because her policies were not ideal but that former President Donald Trumps approach, in his view, would be worse.

(21,016 posts)Trump accused Biden and Schumer of being like Palestinians (and not in a good way.)
In what Effed-Up world-view would anyone think that Trump was the better choice for the Palestinian cause?
No, he just wanted to screw with the Democratic nominee, whoever it was, thinking that might win their good will
Uh
right
Thats politically savvy.

"The only one who wants the war to continue is Hamas," Biden said. Trump responded by saying Biden has "become like a Palestinian," which rights advocates said came across as a slur.
"Actually, Israel is the one (that wants to keep going), and you should let them go and let them finish the job. He (Biden) doesnt want to do it. He's become like a Palestinian but they don't like him because he's a very bad Palestinian. He's a weak one," Trump said.
On Friday, Trump again used the term 'Palestinian' in a similar way, this time saying in a rally that Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who is Jewish, was Palestinian. "He's become a Palestinian because they have a couple more votes or something," he added.
The Council on American Islamic Relations advocacy group said Biden was wrong to claim that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants the war to end, while adding it viewed Trump's Palestinian comment in the debate as a racist insult.
