Trump wins the White House in political comeback rooted in appeals to frustrated voters

Source: AP News —. AP calls the race

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Donald Trump was elected the 47th president of the United States on Wednesday, an extraordinary comeback for a former president who refused to accept defeat four years ago, sparked a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, was convicted of felony charges and survived two assassination attempts.

With a win in Wisconsin, Trump cleared the 270 electoral votes needed to clinch the presidency.

The victory validates his bare-knuckle approach to politics. He attacked his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris, in deeply personal - often misogynistic and racist - terms as he pushed an apocalyptic picture of a country overrun by violent migrants. The coarse rhetoric, paired with an image of hypermasculinity, resonated with angry voters - particularly men - in a deeply polarized nation.

Some will NEVER vote for a woman because they hate women. Just spouting facts here. Every race has its share of guilt and every religion perpetuates this belief system. Time to walk the F away from religion to save the planet. Just my take and hang in there everyone.

We have one candidate who can't keep his people from leaving the stadium. And, he also couldn't fill up small venues he even acted like he was trying to lose. Then we have another candidate who packs two venues on the same day. Not only that she ignites all voters to get up and vote. Now we are suppose to just sit down and hear about how the lower voter turnout person WON! How can I? All I see and suspect are dirty illegal improprieties. There was some serious manipulation of the votes going on, there are no other explanations. The racist don't out number the decent people in this country they just can't...

I'm not a conspiracy theorist but something really doesn't add up here. And what was the "secret" Trump claimed he had with speaker Mike Johnson.

I don't think voting machines can be manipulated but the enthusiasm in some of the swing states was overwhelmingly Harris, so how did Trump win? I honestly don't understand.

Gas prices, grocery prices, and inflation have come down. Yes, rents and house prices and mortgages are still too high, but how many of his voters were even faced with these issues?

Is their frustration religious, that their churches are closing because younger people lack interest? Or that they can’t force everyone around them to follow their religious dictates?

Is it simple hatred of LGBTQ+ and a wish to see them forced out of public life with no rights?

Since men were a big bloc of Trump voters, are they frustrated because they can’t find the jobs they want? Can’t get into college because it costs too much or because they didn’t study enough?

Are men frustrated because they can’t find women who want to marry them? Did they never think that the belly over the belt and long straggly beard look doesn’t appeal to a lot of women?

The only Trump voters I understand are those whose only concern is paying as few taxes as possible. They are just selfish with no concern for others.

Why are all the others frustrated? No one has a clear answer and the media doesn’t bother asking.

At least where I live.

What a lot of people in the Democratic party don't seem to grasp"

NO ONE GIVES A SHIT ABOUT STATISTICS.

You can give me a hundred well-researched and entirely factual articles about how well the economy is doing, that inflation is down, blah blah blah.

MY ELECTRICTY, the cost to fill my work truck, and what that same basket of groceries cost compared to 2020 means everything, some suck-ass piece by an economist means nothing.

Gas is still insane in Calfornia, our Democratic party here lets PG&E get away with anything they want; the same items in my shopping basked cost a hell of a lot more now than 4 years ago. If you don't consider the foregoing infinitly more important than climate change or social justice, YOU are the reason Trump won.

I can't count the number of times I have read here about how good things are now, how much this or that has come down. Bullshit. the only thing that matters is how much do I pay at the pump, how much do I pay for food, and what does it cost to heat my house- if you (mr/mrs politician) have a higher priority than that, and not just at election time, then I will not be surprised if you lose to an orange fascist,

The current administration did not give the fact that the economy SUCKS for working folks and those on fixed incomes the same urgency it gave other issues; for that it paid, and we will all pay.

Insitituting Soviet era style price controls will result in Republicans calling us communists, and we'll see empty shelves.

Trump has not said how he will lower groceries, because he can't.

Not sure how you would lower gas prices, that's determined by the world market. Sure, CA ads taxes to the price of gas, but Californians want the clean air and decent roads those taxes pay for.

Electricity is pretty cheap in the rest of the country. It is expensive in CA because PG&E and Edison have to build in wildfire costs into the price cost of electricity here (for line maintenance, litigation, fire damage payout). Wildfires cost our utility companies billions of dollars each year, and it's getting worse with climate change. Plus winter storms are increasingly causing power outages and downed power lines. https://avaenergy.org/insight/pge-rate-increases-explained/

PG&E does very little except pay thier executives tens of millions of dollars. and then cuts power when the winds come up. they also own most of the politicians here due to contributions. we do not get what we pay for. This is not how to run a government, we have the worst of one-party rule and crony capitalism combined. And Newsome doesn't give a damn.

Yes, first whack the taxes, second tell PG&E 'this is what you can charge, this is what you have to do, and if you don't like it GTFO of business and make it a public utility.

The forst and formost thing is cheap energy, any and every other issue is a distant second. Pocketbood issue matter, first and formost.

and a genuine sense of urgency from the White House would help. even Gerald Ford realized how badly inflation hurts the most vunerable; it's the ultimate reverse tax.

Dirt cheap gas and diesel, dirt cheap electricity, Inflation as an urgent, urgent crisis and *then* I'll give a damn about anything else. May anyone who doesn't think inexpensive fuel for work trucks is more important than climate change never be able to get anyone to show up to fix their plumbing or roof.

The guys and gals with trucks full of tools building and repairing, those are the people who matter to me. I don't care how hard we have to fuck PG&E and the radical nutcase anti-ICE greens, my buddies and I need to get F250s and Rams to job sites to build and fix shit.

Good luck. Those guys in the tool trucks you're talking about mostly voted for Trump, especially in Northern California. Their Orange Mussolini doesn't believe in price controls. And drilling in our national parks will not bring down the price of gas.

males to vote for Harris was a big issue. I don't remember which tv stations had that analysis, but heard it more than once. Sounds to me as if the biggest issue was misogyny, just as you said. Here's a story in The Tennesseean newspaper along that line:

They were not 'frustrated'. I am probably the most frustrated voter you will ever meet. But, I am not an idiot. My ideas and potential direction for the nation would never be even considered with such an administration. Why would I vote for that felon? Why would I feel less despair when I justvgave the country to the modern equivalent of the Ferengi?

Their stupidity is only matched by their desire for revenge... even as they actually have no idea what they are getting 'revenge' for, other than damaged egos and not being automatically held as 'better' than everyone else.

You know... spoiled children. To be honest, this is the result of all those 'gated communities' and the like who created bubbles that were able to warp reality for a privileged few. When they spend most of their time in said bubble, it is no surprise that they lack the ability to handle reality. Or understand it.
