Winter storm halts Amtrak service from Kansas City to Albequerque

Dillon Seckington November 7, 2024 at 2:14 PM

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Amtrak has canceled services between Albuquerque, New Mexico (ABQ) and Kansas City (KCY) today, November 7.

Amtrak announced via X that due to severe weather, Train 4 will be canceled with no alternate transportation provided. This comes after Northeast New Mexico was placed under a winter storm warning by NWS.

According to NWS, the city of Albuquerque and the surrounding area is currently under a winter storm warning until at least November 8 at 11 a.m. NWS also claims that the area is expected to receive three to seven inches of snow by the time the storm is over.

Residents across New Mexico and Colorado hunkered down in biting wintry conditions Thursday that made roads impassable, as forecasters predicted there could be historic amounts of snow in the region.

Several inches of snow were expected in lower elevations. Forecasters said it could be a matter of "feet, not inches" in the Sangre de Cristo, Jemez and Sandia-Manzano mountains in New Mexico.

An Amtrak train can't get thru 5 inches of snow?

Maybe they can hire some curlers with sweeping brooms?

It’s the drifts. I have 10 inches of snow but some 3 foot drifts.

Live 4 miles down a dirt road north of RR - haven’t been hearing any train whistles. I’m probably going nowhere for awhile as the snow will turn to mud in a few days.

I mean I know Albuquerque has literally the worst most expensive airport in America but still.
