AP Race Call: Donald Trump wins Nevada
Source: PBS
Former President Donald Trump won Nevada on Saturday, returning the state and its six electoral votes to Republicans for the first time since President George W. Bush carried it in 2004.
Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris made multiple campaign stops in the state this year. Most of Nevadas counties are rural and voted heavily for Trump in 2020. But Democrat Joe Biden that year won the two most populous counties of Washoe and Clark, the latter of which includes Las Vegas and three-quarters of the states residents.
Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., won reelection to a U.S. Senate seat, fending off a fierce challenge from Republican Sam Brown.
A first-term moderate in a presidential battleground state, Rosen was among the GOPs top targets. She campaigned on lowering costs for the middle class, defending abortion rights and tackling the climate crisis. Over the summer, she introduced legislation that would allow extreme heat to qualify as a disaster under federal law, pointing to heat waves that have crippled the West.

(25,844 posts)Make of it what you will. It's just hard for me to believe there were that many ticket-splitters. I guess I don't want to believe it.

This shit happens all the time. The gqp screws everyone and everything up and Dems come to the rescue. Well, let them have what they voted for. No f..ks left to give!

(17,897 posts)They went in to vote, and checked Trump. They looked at everyone else running and said "who are these people?" So, probably 5% or more only voted for President and skipped the rest.
Democrats were more informed, and voted straight D.

(13,235 posts)The two aren't mutually exclusive. Also, incumbency plays a big role in people voting down ticket.
Not everyone (in fact, I'd assume that most voters who aren't already hyper partisan are like this) votes for a single party all the way down. Someone can like their Democratic senator but not like the Democratic president.

(36,128 posts)The sheer number of reps and senators that don't vote in lockstep with the president (when of the same party) ... Because their local constituency isn't in lockstep with the president's views.
It's often a case of "buck the voters and get bucked over by the voters."

(23,307 posts)I used to love going there when I visited South Lake Tahoe. But a young African American man I met last year told me he took his family up there to see the old town and got harassed so bad they couldnt even finish their meal. He said he couldnt believe how racist the town was that he used to go to as a young kid.

(13 posts)Trump beat Kamala Harris by about 30,000 Votes in Wisconsin. Tammy Baldwin won her U. S. Senate reelection race by about 30,000 votes in Wisconsin. That's a 60,000 vote swing. Most times down ballot candidates get less votes than Presidential candidates. I can't believe conservatives would vote for Trump and then turn around and vote for an openly gay candidate for Senator.

(17,897 posts)Then didn't vote for any other candidates, such as for the Senate.
