Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer will not allow Sen.-elect Dave McCormick (R-Pa.) to participate in Senate orientation this week because he doesnt consider the race to be resolved yet. Though the Associated Press projected Thursday that McCormick defeated Democrat incumbent Bob Casey in Pennsylvanias Senate race, Casey has yet to concede, claiming that there are still thousands of ballots left to be counted.
With over 100,000 ballots left to be counted in Pennsylvania, the race has not been decided. As is custom, we will invite the winner once the votes are counted, a spokesperson for Schumer wrote in a statement. As of Sunday at 4:30 p.m., McCormick was ahead by approximately 39,000 votes.
Schumer is not allowing @DaveMcCormickPA to participate in Senate orientation this week because Casey refuses to concede the race. What happened to all the demands that our leaders accept the outcome of the elections? Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said in a social media post Sunday.
Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) has also not been invited to orientation yet as his race against Republican Kari Lake has yet to be called. Gallego is ahead by approximately 48,000 votes. (The Associated Press has not called that race; the New York Times has not called either the Pennsylvania or Arizona race.)

I think McCormick and Gallego will both win, but Schumer is gonna allow the process to happen

(142,216 posts)the issue wouldn't be installing a President or even ensuring a GOP majority in the Senate, so I doubt they would get involved.

(38,514 posts)The law on recounts seem fair, but the delays in counting work against their being used. I wonder if working around recount laws is also part of the Republican suppression equation in battlegrounds.
My fear is that if Rethugs are in a vote war of attrition, they might just succeed in battleground election workers giving up in 2026 and beyond. And I just can't rule out the problems discovered with "tabulators," whatever that entails.

(142,216 posts)So after that, whatever came in on that day would also need to be added to the outstanding, mostly provisional ballots, that still need to be counted.
In 2020, Biden's final "totals" took about 14 days and we are just 6 days in this year.

(38,514 posts)And Rethugs are doing nothing to disabuse them of that fact. They'll probably even lie and say the late decisions are due to Democratic cheating.

That December 11th date is pretty much the drop dead date for counting.

(142,216 posts)and that has to do with any triggered re-counts if a difference between candidates amounts to 0.5% or less.
I know this past year, even up until the Friday before the election, the courts were back and forth about the mail ballots and the last decisions that came through included one NOT to count mail ballots without a date, but TO count any provisional ballots that were submitted as replacements for mail ballots with missing dates and/or signatures, lacked ID verification, or any other reasons that the ballot was rejected.

Also, the remaining votes are in counties that he is winning.
As an aside, the Green Party candidate has received 68,000 votes.
