Trump names N.Y. Rep. Elise Stefanik U.S. ambassador to U.N.

President-elect Donald Trump has offered the job of U.S. ambassador to the United Nations to Rep. Elise Stefanik and the New York Republican has accepted the offer, a senior source close to the presidential transition confirmed to CBS News. The New York Post was first to report the developments, with statements from Trump and Stefanik. CNN also reported the news, citing two sources.

"I am honored to nominate Chairwoman Elise Stefanik to serve in my Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter," Trump said in a statement to CBS News.

Stefanik confirmed her acceptance of the role in a statement to the Post. "I am truly honored to earn President Trump's nomination to serve in his Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations," Stefanik said. "During my conversation with President Trump, I shared how deeply humbled I am to accept his nomination and that I look forward to earning the support of my colleagues in the United States Senate."

8. Something about this strikes me as odd

Stefanik is among the Trumpiest of the Trump supporters. I do think UN Ambassador is an important position, but is it a plumb position for someone with her history. I guess I am wondering if this a reward or something else. Pushing her out of the way perhaps? Did she do something wrong? Did she want this position?

In the strategy to appoint her, Trump knew the seat will still most likely be filled by another R but we can dream.

Maybe repub voters won’t bother to show up for a special election. Hoping Dems will be fired up enuf after our smack down and they will show up and flip the seat.

I doubt it, but you never know. Unfortunately, I’m wintering away so would need to get an absentee ballot. I hope I can be a part of the flip. 🤞🤷?♀️

She will be giving up a House Seat in a district that had previously been held by DEM Bill Owen’s. It’s is rural upstate NY with no real economy, and might as well be Dumbfuckistan, but there is at least a shot.
