US Shuts Kyiv Embassy During Threat of 'Potential Significant Air Attack'

KYIV (Reuters) - The United States shut its embassy in Kyiv on Wednesday due to "specific information of a potential significant air attack" and told its citizens in Ukraine to be ready to swiftly seek shelter.
The unusual warning came a day after Ukraine used U.S. ATACMS missiles to strike Russian territory, taking advantage of newly granted permission from the outgoing administration of U.S. President Joe Biden on the war's 1,000th day.
"Out of an abundance of caution, the embassy will be closed, and embassy employees are being instructed to shelter in place," the U.S. Department of State Consular Affairs said in a statement on the U.S. embassy's website. "The U.S. Embassy recommends U.S. citizens be prepared to immediately shelter in the event an air alert is announced."
Russia pounded the Ukrainian power grid with 120 missiles and 90 drones on Sunday, causing damage to the power system and killing seven people in an attack that renewed fears over the durability of the hobbled energy network.

I have viewed stuff like the Cuban Missile Crises as stuff from another era.
I am going to take a mental health break from the internet. I will be back here after a few months.
This is the darkest the world has ever looked in my 46+ years: four more years of Trump; climate change and other ecological crises* no one is bothered about; the threat of nuclear war.
I don’t think I can stand to watch Trump and those creepy men around him ruining everything.
I am going to take a break from DU and all but the most basic news consumption till February 2025 and drown myself in work. That’s the plan anyway. If something extra awful happens I will be back here

*: if we had anything like real media there would be an understanding of the fact that ecological issues are economic issues. The reason the price of eggs is high is because of avian flu which results when you maltreat animals tossing aside animal welfare laws and cramming animals into small cages and throwing antibiotics in the mix. That in turn leads to antibiotic resistance and increases the likelihood of pandemics. The Trump Musk plan seems to be to ensure that no one knows why anything happens..
