Vaccination rates for flu and Covid are low this season, CDC says

Vaccination rates for the flu, Covid-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are low for adults in the U.S. so far this season, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

As of Nov. 9, an estimated 35% of U.S. adults had gotten the new flu vaccine, and nearly 18% had received the new Covid vaccines, CDC data shows. However, the agency noted that many unvaccinated adults reported that they intend to get their shots. “There is still time to get vaccinated,” the report said.

The vaccination rate for the flu as of October was roughly equivalent to the same time last year, the CDC found. By the end of 2023, nearly 44% of Americans were estimated to have gotten a flu shot. The rate of Covid vaccination is also similar to last November, around 15%. The CDC has recommended flu and Covid shots for everyone 6 months and older.

The findings come amid rising vaccine hesitancy in the U.S., and a week after President-elect Donald Trump named Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a prominent anti-vaccine activist, as his pick for health and human services secretary.

I got my flu and Covid shots on Monday at CVS and there were no problems or shortages in my area of San Diego. I never get a reaction except when I got the double Shingles shots. They hurt for a week. Since I have to get 32 Botox injections (daily migraines) into my scalp and neck every 3 months these vaxxes are a picnic in comparison.

Other than shopping, I don't spend time around other people. Not quite to the point of masking whenever I go out, but I'm considering it.

Got my Covid shot in September, flu shot in October and RSV vaccine last week. My RSV shot started itching before I even left the drugstore. My upper arm swelled twice the size of my other arm and itched like crazy for two days. I put cortisone cream on it and it helped a little. I took an antihistamine which helped for a short time. It was finally better after two days.

7. At least with COVID vaxx, a major piece is no program for the uninsured since the Bridge program was not funded

by the RW a'holes in Congress. Pharmacies are apparently having to turn these people away in large numbers, as the cost for them to purchase JUST COVID-19 vaxx is as much as $200--depending on which pharmacy or other locale you visit. Standard dose flu vaccine can be purchased for as little as $25, depending on where you go, but someone unable to qualify for Medicaid but still can't afford insurance of Part B Medicare is just shit out of luck. It is unforgivable that something so valuable to public health and which can save so many hospitalizations is not fully funded, IMO.

for both the flu and new covid booster. I figured we better get them before worm-boy destroys all the vaccines.
