Transgender Rep.-elect Sarah McBride calls GOP attacks 'an attempt to distract' from the issues

Source: NBC News

Rep.-elect Sarah McBride, D-Del., the first openly transgender person elected to serve in Congress, on Sunday called House Republicans’ moves to ban her from using women’s bathrooms in the Capitol “mean-spirited” and an “attempt to misdirect” from other policy priorities.

“I think we are all united that attempts to attack a vulnerable community are not only mean-spirited, but really an attempt to misdirect,” McBride told CBS News’ “Face the Nation.” “Every single time we hear the incoming administration or Republicans in Congress talk about any vulnerable group in this country, we have to be clear that it is an attempt to distract.”

She added, “It is an attempt to distract from what they are actually doing. Every single time, every single time we hear them say the word ‘trans,’ look what they’re doing with their right hand. Look at what they’re doing to pick the pocket of American workers, to fleece seniors by privatizing Social Security and Medicare,” McBride added.

In a separate interview Sunday, she also characterized the ongoing Republican moves to restrict where she can use the bathroom on Capitol Hill “a lot of noise.” “Over the last two years, over the last two weeks, there’s certainly been a lot of noise around me, but I’ve remained focused,” McBride told MSNBC’s “The Weekend.”

How many times do y'all need to get slapped upside the head to realize The Show is The Government now?!

Saying it's a distraction misses the point: What Sarah should be doing is going at them for having such small penises that they feel threatened by a transwoman. (Tho I'm pretty sure Nancy Mace's penis is pretty big.)

I'm not kidding. The press covers this like a process story, and liberals are OUTRAGED, I TELL YOU, OUTRAGED!

No one outside of people like us cares if trans folks are treated with respect. The cruelty IS THE POINT, and the crowd LOVES it.

Unless you wrap your brains around that and how to fight it, you're going to continue grumbling in the deep dark corners of places like the Democratic Underground -- literally, a name that says you're outside the mainstream and people shouldn't give a whit.

"No one outside of people like us cares if trans folks are treated with respect."

Your suggestion that Rep.-elect McBride "should be doing is going at them for having such small penises that they feel threatened by a transwoman. (Tho I'm pretty sure Nancy Mace's penis is pretty big.)" uses the same flawed reasoning as Nancy Mace's -- that her gender identity is dependent on or belied by whatever her biology was at birth or is now.

It's on the same level as when rethugs said that Michelle Obama was trans, as if that's an insult.

Obsessing about the genitalia of other people is a huge part of the problem. Trying to insult or shame non trans people this way is neither helpful nor "respectful" to those of us who are trans.

It must be difficult not to let anger take over. Of course that’s what they’re hoping for and why they do it
