Elon Musk erupts over California plan that could cut Tesla from EV tax credit

Source: The Independent

Elon Musk blew up in a post on X after California Gov. Gavin Newsom floated the possibility of providing tax credits for buyers of electric vehicles that might not include Tesla.

“This is insane!” complained Musk, who has been chosen by President-elect Donald Trump to head a new federal efficiency department to cut waste from the government.

Newsom’s office announced Monday that it plans to relaunch California’s subsidy of up to $7,500 in tax credits for buyers of electric vehicles if Trump cuts the same EV federal tax credit, as he’s expected to do.

California’s potential plan would likely not include Musk’s cars because the program would be aimed at helping carmakers with smaller market shares, both Bloomberg and The New York Times reported. Tesla accounted for 56 percent of new EV sales in California during this year’s third quarter.

So let me get this straight..... Musk wants to eliminate federal tax credits for electric vehicles, yet is pitching a hissy fit when Tesla won't qualify for California's tax credits.

How bout that new fleet of ford police vehicles going to another car maker. Ford gave big time to the gqp

No more Applebees, kfc or Pizza Hut at the state level employee buffet.
State employees required to use Lyft instead of Uber for business travel, same with airlines…no more delta.

We can hurt them where they will understand!

and there can be some legal issues if states take actions against companies for behavior that doesn't actually occur within the state. Having said that, I am very much in favor of the blue states joining to apply maximum pressure against these billionaires and rogue corporations that are directly attack our democratic system of government by interfering in elections. Here is what I think COULD hold up to a federal challenge:

The solid blue states (CA, IL, OR, WA, NY, NJ, MA, MD, VA, etc.) form a consortium to guide public investment. The purpose would be to establish a set of corporate standards companies must meet NATIONALLY in order to qualify for any state government contracts, grants, partnerships, tax abatement or any other assistance. There could be multiple factors that would go into the rating of each entity, but some of the factors could be:

* Support for unions and fair pay/workplace practices
* Commitment to decarbonization
* Commitment to living wage
* Requirement to fully utilize existing work forces, especially within the consortium states, before seeking any foreign worker visas
* Limits on executive total compensation (including fringe benefits, options, and other compensation) to no more than 150X the average worker salary throughout the entity. (Note that Musk is about 100,000x the average Tesla worker.)
* No corporate funds spent on election funding, and some objective limit on the amount of lobbying
* and so on

Rules like this would immediately eliminate the worst offenders, yet be completely objective, not singling out any particular company.

resident of NJ here. Did you come up with this on your own or is this an idea that's floating around out there and I just happened to miss it.

NJ pays out $10 billion to the rest of the states (except other states, like NY). Any ideas on how we can keep more of our money instead of giving it to anti-Democratic red states?

The old federal EV tax credit only applied to manufacturers who had not yet met a certain quota of EVs sold. Tesla had long ago blown past that EV quota.

Interesting how Eloon didn't complain about that EV tax credit critera the whole 4 years Trump was pResident.

Teslas are now eligible again for that federal tax credit thanks to the green energy components in Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act that Trump wants to get rid of.

Why is this so FUCKING hard to understand?

When I look at a Tesla, I see a German Tank, with the guts of murdered innocents greasing the treads. You should too.

Does America have to be completely destroyed before you remove EVERYTHING Musk touches from your lives?

Seriously, what is it going to take?

Concentration Camps?
Miscarrying women bleeding out?
Armed Nazis in the Streets of our cities?
The National Guard in your neighborhood?

What the fuck will it take for Democrats to STOP GIVING THIS PIECE OF SHIT YOUR MONEY AND YOUR TIME?
