Jack Smith Plans to Release Report Before Donald Trump is Sworn In: CNN

Special counsel Jack Smith plans to release his final report on the federal investigations into former President Donald Trump before Inauguration Day on January 20, according to a CNN report citing a source close to the matter. The report is expected to detail Smith's findings on key cases involving Trump, including allegations of election subversion and mishandling of classified documents. Attorney General Merrick Garland is expected to publicly release the special counsel report.
"Historically, these special counsel reports are quite detailed," CNN legal analyst Elie Honig said Tuesday morning in an interview with Jim Acosta. " I think this will be Jack Smith's last and best chance to tell his story in both cases. He's already done that to some extent through his indictments and court filings, but this will be it this will be the historical record."
On Monday, Smith filed to drop all four felony charges related to Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and his alleged role in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Judge Tanya Chutkan dismissed all charges against Trump in his election fraud case later on Monday.
Smith also moved to dismiss the case regarding Trump's handling of classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, after he left office in January 2021. "These cases were dismissed without prejudice, which technically leaves the door open for future prosecution," Honig explained Tuesday. The analyst also likened the possibility of reviving the cases to the lowly "New York Jets making it to the Super Bowl."

(5 posts)Very different circumstances compared to Mueller's report. Mueller was reporting to a Trump AG and that's where the redactions came from. In this case, Smith is reporting to Biden's AG and he was the guy who hired Smith. Very, very different.

The reason that I would not be in favor of redacting national security redactions would be that there is hardly anything that Trump hasn't sold to any number of governments already.......I suspect all of those countries had the Top Secret Intel long ago, probably before Biden took office......
If I were Jack Smith, I would send un-redacted copies to WaPo, NYT, and several other legitimate news organizations here and abroad.
And then I would get the hell out of the country, covertly, to some safe location.
Certainly he would be #1 on Trump's list of a thousand he will go after.........

(10,147 posts)In the 80's, our Attorney General (Republican) was forced to take on Rockwell. Rockwell had managed Rocky Flats, a large track of land just south of Boulder. They manufactured all the Plutonium Triggers for all the atomic weapons. They were extremely sloppy for decades, with minimal safety controls. The smoke plume from one fire, sent 14 lbs of plutonium powder into the atmosphere downwind across many communities/water reservoirs on the North edge of Denver.
She assembled a Grand Jury that did a great job of discovering all the short cuts as far as safety, and the incredible profits they made from the U.S. Government. (All of that land is still un-inhabitable by anyone, by the way)
Anyways, the Grand Jury completed their study and came up with a guilty verdict, and wanted 60 Billion for clean up.
Gale Norton announced she was issuing a fine of 10-15 Million. Case over.
She quickly was hired by Reagan for her stellar performance in protecting Rockwell, and Reagan appointed her Secretary of Interior so she could carry on her corruption over the entire U.S.
Everything in a Grand Jury is kept secret. The jurors may never talk about what actually went on during their trial. If they do talk, they go to Prison. One man on the Jury was so upset about what she did, and what Rockwell got away with, that he decided he didn't care if he went to prison or not. He kept meticulous notes of the Trial, over six months.......He copied all his notes, made two copies and sent one to the Denver Post another to the Rocky Mtn News, and the whole thing became public knowledge.....However, Rockwell would not face trial again, Gale Norton went to Washington and that was the end of the story......
The Juror was sent to prison.......and there never was a clean up.........
On a side note, Supreme Court Justice Gorsuch's mom, (Uber Rich Republican),while running the same office? under Reagan, was suspected of making a bunch of money for herself, for her decisions to help mineral? or Oil? corporations with decisions in front of her. As I recall, she resigned two days before being charged to escape prosecution. It never went to trial thx to Reagan.....
I can only assume her son is much more respectable and honest in his position on the USSC......and would never favor Corporations or Republican Politicians....

https://prospect.org/health/2024-02-22-company-joe-namath-medicare-advantage-ads-misconduct/
Former New York Jets superstar Joe Namath can be seen every year during Medicare open enrollment hocking plans that tell seniors how great their life would be if only they signed up for a Medicare Advantage plan. From October 15 to December 7 last year alone, Joe Namath ads ran 3,670 times, according to iSpot, which tracks TV advertising.
But the company behind those ads, now called Blue Lantern Health, and their products, HealthInsurance.com and the Medicare Coverage Helpline, have an expansive rap sheet of misconduct, including prosecutions by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Federal Trade Commission, and a recent bankruptcy filing that critics say is designed to jettison the substantial legal liabilities the firm has incurred. In September 2023, the company became Blue Lantern; before that, it was called Benefytt; and before that, Health Insurance Innovations. Forty-three state attorneys general had settled with the company in 2018, with it paying a $3.4 million fine. A close associate of the company, Steven Dorfman, has also been prosecuted by the FTC, in addition to the Department of Justice.
Namath himself has a bit of a checkered past when it comes to his business associatesin the early 1970s, he co-owned a bar frequented by members of the Colombo and Lucchese crime families, according to reporting at the time cited in a 2004 biography. Due to the controversy surrounding the bar, Namath was forced by the NFL Commissioner to sell his interest in it. Last year, it was revealed that Namath had employed a prolific pedophile coach at his football camp, also in the 1970s, and the 80-year-old ex-quarterback is now being sued by one of the coachs victims.
The Namath ads are the main illustration of the behemoth Medicare Advantage marketing industry, which is designed to herd seniors into Medicare Advantage plans that restrict the doctors and hospitals that seniors can go to and the procedures they can access through the onerous prior authorization process, and it costs the federal government as much as $140 billion annually compared to traditional Medicare. Over half of seniorsnearly 31 million peopleare now in Medicare Advantage, and there is little understanding of the drawbacks of the program. Seniors are aware that they may receive modest gym or food benefits but typically do not realize that they may be giving up their doctors, their specialists, their outpatient clinics, and their hospitals in favor of an in-network alternative that may be lower quality and farther away.

He should have forced the recusal of loose canon who will shortly be on the supreme court for life due to his unwillingness to do what should have been done -- either of his volition or under orders of the feckless Garland.
The fire is started and he and the rest of the DOJ FAILED at their jobs.
The report does absolutely nothing now.
The dirty DOJ memo from the dirty Nixon administration was there. He knew the timeline. He should have listened to Bagman by Rachel Maddow to understand how important it is to move quickly when the real possibility of a criminal in the oval office is the threat.
