Trump cabinet picks targeted with bomb threats, 'swatting', spokesperson says

WASHINGTON, Nov 27 (Reuters) - Several of Donald Trump's cabinet and administration picks were targeted in recent hours with actions including bomb threats and "swatting," a spokesperson for the U.S.-president elect said on Wednesday.
The threats were made Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, and law enforcement acted quickly to ensure the safety of those targeted, spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.

Leavitt did not say who exactly was targeted, and did not elaborate on the nature of the apparent threats.

Leavitt said the attacks "ranged from bomb threats to 'swatting'" - when a false crime is reported to induce a heavy, armed police response at someone's home.

1. I really want to post this meme sign.

So I will. After all there are people who the law doesn't apply to anymore... and IMO the situation will get worse.



But I have a few things to say.

One: bomb threats and swatting ain't acceptable. Period. I'll happily condemn violence until the cows come home.

Two: who are making the threats? Or are they made up, just like the sign?

Three: if they were nicer people and more decent perhaps they wouldn't get threatened? No one deserves this kind of treatment but to me this is Newtons Third Law applying itself. Just I don't like the equal and opposite reaction here.

Trusting they'll stay safe. Violence ain't the answer. IMO making these folks social pariahs and socially unacceptable is a better solution.

4. Let's be honest with ourselves

It only takes one person to make multiple telephone calls. Do you know anyone capable of making a call?

Given that multiple calls were apparently made within a relatively small window of time, it seems likely that either they were coordinated, or made by a single person.

In any case, the vast majority are not making these calls.

2. I find it interesting that the culprits are almost always right wingers

I would not be surprised if these claims are exaggerated, spurious or even fabricated by the transition team. For all we know, the Russians may have made the threats just to keep the pot boiling with "both-sideserism".
