'First Buddy' Elon Musk accuses Trump impeachment witness of 'treason' and calls for 'appropriate penalty'

Musk, who has been tasked by Trump to lead an outside agency on government efficiency named after a meme, took issue on Wednesday with comments made by former National Security Council official Alexander Vindman during an appearance on MSNBC.
Vindman, who testified in 2019 that Trump pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to launch an investigation into then-presidential candidate Joe Biden, cited reports that Musk had been engaged in secret conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin dating back to 2022. He then expressed concerns that Musk, who has federal contracts through his SpaceX, Tesla and Starlink companies, may have shared “state secrets” with Putin.
“And [Putin’s] been using the richest man in the world to do his bidding. In some cases, that’s encouraging him probably to support Donald Trump,” Vindman told MSNBC. “That’s not speculation. We see how far in Elon has gone. And then using Twitter as a disinformation platform.”
Reacting to a clip of Vindman’s remarks, Musk tweeted: “Vindman is on the payroll of Ukrainian oligarchs and has committed treason against the United States, for which he will pay the appropriate penalty.”

(177,385 posts)I had stepped away for a bit. I was pleased when Eugene won, even though I don't live in Virginia. If Alex also has political ambitions, I'd wish him well. But considering what Alex has been through, including this latest threat, he may just want to a quiet life with his wife and kids. And who can blame him? He's an authentic hero.

(10,588 posts)... I would see three reasons for progressives to use that platform:
1. Cross post from their primary platform content to X so it gets a possibility of being at least seen by normal people on X.
2. High profile progressives like Pete Buttigieg to rebut the super obvious lies that get circulated by certain X users. Example being the issue regarding federal funding for an electric vehicle charging network - a Republican Congress Rep reposted an inaccurate statement, Mr. Musk amplified it, Secretary Pete weighed in stating it was false and gave the real facts (or something in those lines, the exact details I can't remember off the top of my head). Which is odd since Mr. Musk appears to be heavily involved in a battery-elecrric vehicle company and should have been at least aware of the high level view of the program. Congress Rep Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez also uses X to good effect.
3. Those who are brave enough and want to take on the worst elements on X in a troll war. Which they'll probably lose as they're outgunned (figuratively speaking) and outnumbered (literally) in that arena.
My use is "read only", very occasional, and even less occasionally "liking" a progressive message. Enough to stop me from being cancelled there.
But certain progressive folks just don't need to do business there. I believe Stephen King has given up there and is elsewhere now. But don't quote me on this.

(5,094 posts)and that's not constitutionally allowed. Not only is Elon not eligible to be president, but we do NOT have shadow presidents in this country. Not that I know if there's anything that can be done about it, since the whole of government seems to have been bought and sold by the Republicans and their oligarch friends.

Let me help you out with the facts: I don’t take/have never taken money from any money from oligarchs Ukrainian or other otherwise.
I do run a nonprofit foundation. The http://HereRightMattersFoundatiom.org to help Ukraine defend itself from Russia’s unprovoked attack on Feb 24, 2022. I served in the military for nearly 22 years and my loyalty is to supporting the U.S. Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. That’s why I reported presidential corruption when I witnessed an effort to steal an election. That report was in classified channels and when called by Congress to testify about presidential corruption I did so, as required by law.
You, Elon, appear to believe you can act with impunity and are attempting to silence your critics. I’m not intimidated.”
