Canada leaders agree to unite against Trump tariff threat amid reports of retaliatory measures
Source: The Guardian
Canadas federal government and the premiers of the 10 provinces have agreed to work together against a threat by US president-elect Donald Trump to impose sweeping tariffs on Canadian imports, with one official saying the country was already examining possible retaliatory measures.
We agreed that we need to be smart, strong and united in meeting this challenge, deputy prime minister Chrystia Freeland told reporters on Wednesday after a virtual meeting with the premiers called by the prime minister, Justin Trudeau.
Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on products from Canada and Mexico if the countries do not stop what he called the flow of drugs and migrants across southern and northern borders. He said he would impose a 25% tax on all products entering the US from Canada and Mexico as one of his first executive orders.
Canada is already examining possible retaliatory tariffs on certain items from the United States should president-elect Donald Trump follow through on his threat, the Associated Press reported, citing a senior official.

It's mentioned in the article that the midwest is the largest consumer of Canadian crude oil imports, and that gasoline prices there will likely rise at least 30 cents per gallon if tRUMP's tariffs take effect.

(744 posts)Thank God he's not going to be in charge anymore. Between this and Obama's letting 911 happen, hopefully trump can stay in as president for more than 4 years. I dunno, maybe not have elections anymore or something like that.
Though it is too bad we don't have more autos with better mileage and more electric and hybrid vehicles. Those Dems sure did hold progress on that up. No worries though, Elon will take care of us.
Real Americans eat pancake syrup anyway, not that socialized medicine maple they push in Canada.
And they still speak French In Canada, and I think we're still anti french. Freedom fries and all that. Idk, will have to check 'project 25 for dummies' to make sure what I'm supposed to say about the French.

Which is great because getting rid of all the trees will lower the risk of wild fires and increase our supply of thneeds.
