Trump taps Kash Patel for FBI director

Source: NBC

President-elect Donald Trump announced Saturday he would pick Kash Patel, the former chief of staff to to the acting secretary of defense during the first Trump administration, to serve as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and “America First” fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People," Trump wrote in a post to Truth Social, arguing Patel would "bring back Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity to the FBI."

Patel has earned a reputation as the ultimate Trump loyalist who has called for a purge of perceived enemies in the Justice Department and intelligence agencies.

A former public defender who rose to increasingly senior national security posts in the final year of Trump’s first term, Patel has promoted the falsehood that the 2020 election was “stolen” from Trump as well as baseless claims that federal bureaucrats in the “deep state” tried to overthrow the former president.

Patel has called for replacing “anti-democratic” civil servants in law enforcement and intelligence with “patriots” who he says will work for the American people, and in his memoir described the current political moment as “a battle between the people and a corrupt ruling class."

Christoper Wray has held the position since 2017. The FBI Director's boss is the AG but he can be fired by the president.

Trump appointed him in the first place, but he clashed with Trump on several issues, notably Ukraine and Russian election interference. He also called 1/6 domestic terrorism. No way was Trump not going to fire him.

Trump doesn’t want to be told the truth, doesn’t care about the truth. Republicans in Washington know Wray told him the truth, said republicans are in a quandary. Do the right thing or destroy liberty and Justice for all. Hey no big deal for spineless cowards.

And that is the MAGA audience on alt right media that helped him get elected, and are his most vocal and biggest fans. It's sad really that he hasn't developed any humility or thought about what a second term could mean for a positive legacy. Instead, he's just going to give the middle finger to the rest of us, and cater to the adulation of his intransigent supporters.

"Kash Patel was raised as a Hindu, and has said that he has always had a "very deep" connection with India."

The RAW have been implicated in killings and attempted killings of Sikhs in North America, so called "enemies of the state."

If he is--and he actually does any of the things he's said he'd do--that's a hard line in the sand for me wanting to stay in this country (frankly, that's true of a couple of these nominees). At that point, the writing will be on the wall for the US, spelled out in bold red letters for everyone to see.

Patel said he "funded whistleblowers campaigns," which Democrats on the Republican-controlled House Judiciary weaponization subcommittee said included former FBI employees the FBI claimed endorse "an alarming series of conspiracy theories related to the January 6 Capitol attack ... and the validity of the 2020 election."

During a December 2023 appearance on the Steve Bannon "War Room" podcast, Patel concurred with Bannon's assertions that Donald Trump is "dead serious" about his intent to seek revenge against his political enemies should he be elected in 2024. Patel stated:

"We will go out and find the conspirators — not just in government, but in the media ... we're going to come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens, who helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections ... We're going to come after you. Whether it's criminally or civilly, we'll figure that out.

But yeah, we're putting you all on notice, and Steve, this is why they hate us. This is why we're tyrannical. This is why we're dictators ... Because we're actually going to use the Constitution to prosecute them for crimes they said we have always been guilty of but never have.[50]
