President-elect Donald Trump reportedly joked to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last week that his country should become part of the United States if it can’t handle his aggressive tariff plan.

Trump, 78, made the quip during a three-hour-long dinner with Trudeau at his Mar-a-Lago estate on Friday – a meeting prompted by the president-elect’s threat to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian imports. ...

...“So your country can’t survive unless it’s ripping off the US to the tune of $100 billion?” Trump reportedly replied, referencing the US trade deficit with Canada.

The president-elect then joked that Canada could become the 51st state, with Trudeau serving as its governor.

Canada is actually a combination of deep red (Liberal Party colour) and orange (New Democratic Party colour). But technical details. If you multiply any Canadian statistic by 9 or divide any US statistic by 9, you have compensated for the difference in population.

2,601 "equivalent" Cdn deaths vs 48,000+ US deaths.

Another way to look at it is per capita.
One in 144,913 Canadians died by gun.
One in 7,212 Americans died by gun.

Bottom line: you are 20 times more likely to die of gun in America than in Canada.

tRump invited Trudeau down before the tariff's news bomb.

Trudeau said he'd do something about border crossings, and he will do a little something that will have a measurable effect. tRump will get a headline out of it, and Canada will get off tariffs. At least that is my expectation and hope, a hope because tRump can be a chaos agent at times.
