President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Drug Enforcement Administration abruptly withdrew his name from consideration on Tuesday just days after being chosen.

Chad Chronister said in a post on X that he made the decision “as the gravity of this very important responsibility set in,” but didn’t cite a reason for his withdrawal other than concluding he wanted to continue in his current role as a sheriff in Florida.

“There is more work to be done for the citizens of Hillsborough County and a lot of initiatives I am committed to fulfilling,” he said. “I sincerely appreciate the nomination, outpouring of support by the American people, and look forward to continuing my service as Sheriff of Hillsborough County.”

Chronister was initially appointed to his job as county sheriff by then-Florida Gov. Rick Scott in 2017 before successfully running for election to the role. He also overlapped in the office with Pam Bondi, Trump’s pick for attorney general, when she was a state prosecutor. Trump said in a post on Truth Social Saturday, when he announced his selection, that Chronister would “secure the Border, stop the flow of Fentanyl, and other Illegal Drugs, across the Southern Border, and SAVE LIVES."

Hillsborough Co. sheriff’s son sentenced to 22 months in prison

George Chronister, son of Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister, who was found guilty of aggravated battery with great bodily harm stemming from a stabbing case, was sentenced on Wednesday.

The amateur rapper was found guilty of stabbing musician Phillip Manzi in a feud reportedly over stolen lyrics. A cell phone video taken about a year ago in a parking lot off Bruce B. Downs Boulevard shows George Chronister with a knife.

Chronister was sentenced to 22 months in prison and three years probation for stabbing Manzi in the face and puncturing his lung.

Chad Chronister's father-in-law is Eddie DeBartolo Jr., former CEO of the San Francisco 49ers. DeBartolo received a pardon from Chump back in February 2020 for a previous bribery/corruption offense. Not much was made of it at the time, but we all know that Chump never does anything for nothing.

I'm starting to wonder if maybe Mr. Chronister is being advised not to accept the job by others in his family?

He arrested the pastor of a megachurch who held services with hundreds of people and violated a safer-at-home order in place aimed at limiting the spread COVID.

He had also said something in the past about his office not being in the immigration enforcement business, and supported some Pride events.
