Bahamas rejects Trump proposal to take in deported migrants
Source: Guardian
The Bahamas has rejected a proposal from the incoming Trump administration to take in deported people, as the president-elect seeks to follow up on pledges to slash immigration.
Donald Trumps team has drawn up a list of countries to which it wants to deport migrants when their home countries refuse to accept them, according to NBC News.
But the Bahamas said it had reviewed and firmly rejected the plan.
Prime Minister Philip Daviss office said his government had received a proposal from the Trump transition team to accept deportation flights of migrants from other countries.

The Bahamas simply does not have the resources to accommodate such a request. The Prime Minister priorities remain focused on addressing the concerns of The Bahamian people.
Since the Prime Ministers rejection of this proposal, there has been no further engagement or discussions with the Trump transition team or any other entity regarding this matter. The Government of The Bahamas remains committed in its position .

(12,386 posts)thanks to tRUMP. I was able to visit Cuba on a cruise after President Obama had begun normalizing relations with Cuba and before tRUMP reversed all of that.

country after country do this. The next step will be concentration camps
here to house those people, paid for by the taxpayers.

(203 posts)people needing help. Panama is the mega-giant of these -- 4.5 million population, and its area about the same as S. Carolina (whose population BTW is 5.4 million).
The rest are below a million population: Bahamas 413k, Grenada 126k, and Turks and Caicos 46k, and all these are minute area-wise.
There are 13 million undocumented migrants in the U.S., according to a quick Google search.
What the idiot was "thinking" when he came up with this list of countries, who knows.

(36,003 posts)Just a short van ride across the border, as opposed to a ship or an airplane. And Mexico's population per square mile is much lower than most of these tiny islands that are being considered.
It's too bad Chump has such a terrible track-record where Mexico is concerned.

But I honestly don't know what these MAGA idiots are doing, and doubt they know.

(66,720 posts)a stupid ass he is, this is bullying other countries, he's going to make many enemies. So what is the alternative rounding up people and putting them in camps???? This sounds sickly familiar.

(7,111 posts)If it was a few thousand, maybe Bahama would have said yes, but you know it would be at least tens of thousands. A small island nation isn't prepared to accept huge numbers of deportees.
Actually, no country is going to commit to an open ended policy to receive these people. Trump's mouth is making promises that he's not going to be able to fulfill. My concern is for the people his Gestapo agents are going to seize and hold in, what will amount to, concentration camps.
This is not going to end well for all these people who came here to find a better life for themselves and their families, but are going to end up suffering for it.

(126 posts)Don't be so cynical. They're only work camps, where the people will be provided lodging in exchange for their labor. It's only fair. After all, arbeit macht frei. Maybe they could put that over the entry gate.
