Ontario premier says US energy exports will be cut off if Trump imposes sweeping tariffs on Canada

Source: AP

The premier of Canada’s most populous province said Wednesday he will cut off energy to the United States if President-elect Donald Trump imposes sweeping tariffs on all Canadian products.

&snip-

“We’re going to put our list together, and I’m sure the other provinces will as well. But we will go to the full extent, depending on how far this goes. We will go to the extent of cutting off their energy,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford said after meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other provincial premiers.

-snip-

“We will use every tool in our tool box to fight back. We can’t sit back and roll over. We just won’t as a country. And isn’t this a shame, our closest friends and allies.”

About 60% of U.S. crude oil imports are from Canada, and 85% of U.S. electricity imports as well.

Trump cuts tariff deals with friends. They win big. They remit their cut to Trump.

It's a shakedown. Companies and countries that play ball by buying DJT stock and TrumpCoin and donating to Republicans will get special exemptions from the tariffs.

Bless your heart. You have a disgustingly distorted view of Canada. There was no payment for tRump, there was no cut.

There is corruption and nonsense everywhere, but great chunks of the many examples of American insanity do not extend across the border, not does tRump's deep transactional corruption.

Please.

Ford's talking tough now because he's contemplating calling a snap election in Ontario, and the current narrative is that Trudeau's letting the Orange Asshole jerk him around.

But Ford and the other Conservative premiers (which is most of the premiers) will happily roll over for the Asshole, especially if the federal Conservatives take over Parliament next year.

The oil companies would have Ford’s head on a pike if he took even the weakest steps to stop exporting Canadian crude to the US.

.
By making such a theatrical statement, even though he knows he will never act on it, Ford gets to look tough in contrast to Trudeau.

It will be interesting to see if Poilievre, the leader of the conservatives, supports Ford on this.

As I understand it, a large majority of gun crimes in Canada use guns illegally obtained in the US and smuggled into Canada. There is no fentanyl crisis at the Canada-USA border.

Canada trade deficit with USA, compared as a percentage of US exports to the regions, is minor:

USA's trade deficit with Canada: 9 % of US exports to Canada
World: 26 % of US exports worldwide
Mexico: 33 % of US exports to Mexico
China: 129 % of US exports to China

the article claims 1.5 million people get their electricity from Ontario. I live on the metro detroit area where (i'm pretty sure) we get all out power from DTE, and that they generate all their own power.

Does anyone know where these 1.5 million homes that rely on ontario power come from? i've been searching the internet and found lots of articles about all the michigan power companies and how they generate power and where their plants are, but i cannot find ANYTHING that talks about what homes in michigan, or anywhere else, are powered by Ontario.

Can anyone help me? i just want to know my lights aren't going to go out lol
