WASHINGTON, Dec 13 (Reuters) - Former U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi suffered an injury on a trip to Luxembourg and has been admitted to a hospital for evaluation, her office said in a statement on Friday.
Pelosi, 84, is the first woman to serve as speaker of the House and had also been a longtime leader of the House Democratic Caucus.
"While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation," Pelosi spokesperson Ian Krager said in a statement. "Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals. She continues to work."
The San Francisco congresswoman stepped down from her role as speaker -- a powerful position second in line to the presidency after the vice president -- in 2023 but she has continued to serve in the House.

(18,676 posts)I wonder what happened? Was it a fall, equipment failure, accidental cut on a tool, or something else?

The EMS told my buddy that it would have been a Life Flight without it! Im sorry about Nancy. I hope it isnt serious. 💗🙏🏼

(8,354 posts)Since I did once, I would not wish the inconvenience on anyone. On the other hand, if she's doing business from bed, perhaps not a head injury either? Ribs? Whatever it is, she has apparently not slowed down. Basically, encouraging news.

(9,966 posts)People close to Pelosi in California and Washington, D.C., speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak for her, said the former speaker fractured her hip when she fell in Luxembourg, and that doctors were confident the damage could be repaired with a routine operation. It was not yet clear whether that would be done in Luxembourg or in the United States.

(29,913 posts)The care in European hospitals isn't superior to ours, it's just financed differently.

(4,620 posts)I fractured my hip in a fall. Thanks to Cigna insurance, since everyone was more concerned with my facial injuries by the time anyone took me seriously about how bad my hip hurt and ordered an MRI, Cigna refused it. Ended up a few months later having a hip replacement. I was in my 40s, and it still felt like it took forever to heal.
Ive heard good things about Luxembourg. I think she's in good hands. It sounds like the hip was the more serious injury if she's doing business from bed. Rehab and recovery from surgery will be long and painful and I wish her all the best for a safe and as quick a recovery as possible.

(60,754 posts)Some years back, right after Pelosi's husband was attacked, I attended a party and a group of the guests were laughing and having a good time talking about the serious hammer attack.
I was shocked and disgusted. Never spoke to any of these people again.
Never stepped foot in that house again.
These people are monsters.
