The newly released correspondence shows that Musk’s wealth manager Jared Birchall created for-profit public benefit corporation called Open Artificial Intelligence Technologies as the proposed future structure of OpenAI, the company claimed in its blog post Friday.
Musk then demanded 50 to 60 percent equity of the for-profit, majority control over its board, as well as the title of CEO, according to text messages exchanged between co-founder Greg Brockman and Zillis.
In a Sept. 13, 2017 email to OpenAI co-founders Ilya Sutskever and Brockman, Musk acknowledges his demand for power, but says it will temporary. “I would unequivocally have initial control of the company, but this will change quickly,” Musk writes, while also laying out a plan for allocating board seats that would give him power to choose more directors than anyone else.
