Tesla Annual Sales Slip for First Time as Competition Grows

Tesla sales fell slightly in 2024, the first annual decline in the company's history, as rivals in China, Europe and the United States introduced dozens of competing electric models, giving buyers more choice.

The company said on Thursday that it delivered 1,789,226 vehicles worldwide during the year, a slight decline from 1,808,581 in 2023. During the last three months of 2024, Tesla delivered 495,570 vehicles, up from 484,507 in the last quarter of 2023. The fourth-quarter sales were a record, according to the company.

Tesla shares, which have been buoyant in recent months, were down nearly 6 percent in early trading on Thursday.

Tesla and its chief executive, Elon Musk, largely created the market for electric vehicles when it began selling the Model 3 sedan in 2017, arguably the first battery-powered car with the price, performance and range to attract large numbers of mainstream buyers. Tesla still accounts for nearly half of all electric cars sold in the United States.

they have been taught to hate electric vehicles ( remember the idiots and "rolling coal"? ). They think global warming is a myth. Living in rural America is not that great for electrics ( charging stations are still few and far between ). Self driving tech bro vehicles are not exactly perfect yet. The damn things still catch on fire at seemingly random times. And, lastly, most MAGA people can't afford a $80,000 vehicle... well except for the oversized trucks they love, so maybe I'm wrong about that.

As for the rest of us, the brand should be toxic... like posting on X-twitter

who helped make Tesla a brand, and he is replacing them with conservatives who will never buy an EV.

In Germany, he is praising a neo-Nazi party, and he has tried to incite insurrection in the UK.

I wouldn't buy a Tesla for the same reason I wouldn't buy a Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, Subaru, KIA or any of that import junk made overseas or in the USA. They are all non-union plants, scabs.

it is the CEO, revealing himself as a Nazi sympathizer. Also, buying this election, and now trying to buy elections in the UK and Germany.

People are getting tired of Musk and are stopping to buy Teslas

DETROIT (AP) — Tesla posted its first annual sales drop in more than a dozen years Thursday, sinking a stock that has soared since Donald Trump’s victory on optimism Elon Musk’s close relationship to the president-elect will help the company.

Tesla’s global vehicle sales rose 2.3% in the final quarter thanks to 0% financing, free charging and low-priced leases. But that was not enough for billionaire Musk’s most valuable holding to overcome a sluggish start to 2024.

The Austin, Texas, company sold 495,570 vehicles from October through December, boosting deliveries to 1.79 million for the full year. That was 1.1% below 2023 sales of 1.81 million as overall demand for electric vehicles in the U.S. and elsewhere slowed.

The year-over-year global sales drop is Tesla’s first since 2011, according to figures from analytics firm Global Data. The company sold 1,306 vehicles in 2010, but that dropped slightly to 1,129 the following year.
