domestic or foreign.

Domestic because Detroit won't be able to keep costs down with imported metal, e.g., aluminum and steel.

Foreign because of the tariffs, a VAT imposed on the purchase price.

As it is, the price of a new car is in the upper 40's.

Better make friends with your mechanic. You're gonna keep your car a bit longer than planned.

Lots of car parts come from Mexico and Canada, as well as other countries, even for "domestic" cars.
With import tariffs on steel and aluminum, prices on auto parts that contain those metals will go up, even if they are made in the US.
It's gonna get REAL bad, when Americans cannot drive to the local stores, because they cannot afford to repair their cars.

those who are part of car theft syndicates (a/k/a "Cartels" since they like to use that term for OTHER countries and it applies to the U.S. as well) that steal older model cars (domestic and foreign) and strip them - in some cases right there on the street after putting them up on concrete blocks and removing all kinds of parts from them (tires, wheels, batteries, catalytic converters, mufflers, aftermarket radios/sound systems, head lamps, etc).
