Greenland Officials Express Fury Over Trump's Plan to Send Delegation
Source: NYT
Relations between Greenland and the United States sank further on Sunday as the Greenlandic prime minister erupted over what he called a “highly aggressive” delegation of senior officials the Trump administration said it would send to the island this week.
Usha Vance, the second lady, and Michael Waltz, the national security adviser, are among the officials headed to the island, which is a semiautonomous territory of Denmark, though President Trump has vowed to make it part of the United States “one way or the other.”

The prime minister, Mute B. Egede, said on Sunday that Greenlanders’ effort to be diplomatic just “bounces off Donald Trump and his administration in their mission to own and control Greenland.”
-snip-
“What is the national security adviser doing in Greenland?” he asked. “The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us.”

The bullying ugly Americans apparently were NOT invited.
A spokesman for Waltz said his visit is about gathering information because the US "has a vested security interest in the Arctic region" and they "also look forward to experiencing Greenland’s famous hospitality.". This is all BS.

(13,844 posts)Perhaps they should treat they as we have treated many tourists and others, of late.

(1,308 posts)Persona non grata.
If you come, you stay at Pittufik Space Force Base.
Don't even think of changing it back to Thule.
You are not to leave the base.
Enjoy your stay.

(777 posts)Don't meet with them, don't talk to them. Don't accept anything from them, and be clear who is to blame if they try to withhold something. They're not a legitimate government, and Greenland can just talk to Moscow if they want to know what these criminal scum are going to say.
Stop indulging this insurgency and say No. We're members of NATO. If we want to talk to Moscow, we'll talk to Moscow.
This is not hard. People are just fucking dumb and cowardly.

(55,425 posts)I imagine Usha and Waltz will be landing on our base. The United States operates Pituffik Space Base (formerly Thule Air Base) in northwest Greenland, a strategically located base supporting missile warning, missile defense, and space surveillance missions, under a defense agreement with Denmark.
Buy it doesn't sound like anyone from Greenland will be greeting them.

(777 posts)It would have been a great move if they could have arranged a bunch of similar-level NATO people from signatory countries to show up at the base at the same time, and just not tell them until they met.
Would have been a nice proactive move and not just complaining.

(5,319 posts)do it like the Americans do! Herd them all into small barb wired cells, leave them for a couple of weeks, and then deport them back to DC in chains. You think that might make the "not wanted" diplomacy calls work?
