Biden's family encourages him to stay in the race as they discuss whether top advisers should be fired

(CNN) Joe Biden’s family on Sunday encouraged the president to stay in the 2024 race and privately discussed whether top aides should be fired on the heels of Biden’s stunningly poor debate performance, which has thrown his campaign into turmoil.

Biden’s family, including first lady Jill Biden, son Hunter Biden and their grandchildren, convened at Camp David for a previously scheduled get-together and implored the president to keep fighting in his bid for reelection, Biden advisers told CNN. One adviser described the family members as having offered their “unequivocal support.”

The family – clearly frustrated with the team that prepared President Biden ahead of his alarming debate with former President Donald Trump – discussed whether any of Biden’s top advisers should be fired and whether campaign staffing changes should be made, one adviser said.

Biden, however, is known for being loyal to and protective of his close advisers, and does not like to fire aides. As of Sunday, it did not appear that any major staffing changes were looming.

2. Is this actual true, and why would they make this public? I mean who was the advisor that thought it was a "good idea"

to give an explanation on how they messed up. I never think it’s a good idea to just fire people.

3. Whoever is advising him on his messaging about Israel's war on Gaza also needs to go.

So far, the message has been that the US will send enough military aid to Israel to blow Gaza off the map, even knowing that even the IDF leaders gave said that Hamas fighters cannot be eliminated with huge bombs that destroy civilians and infrastructure. It has been apparent for some time that Netanyahu is giving Biden the middle finger, but the aid just keeps flowing.

I believe that President Biden can express support for Israel but also start talking more about a Palestinian state and how to accomplish peace for both peoples.

6. Finally a thread about the real culprits from the poor debate,

There is a lot of blame to go around. If people wanted the title of campaign adviser they need to face consequences when things go poorly, starting with actually agreeing to the debate and then on down the line. Joe's campaign advisers did him no favors.

I believe Brooklynite did a post about talking with one of Joe's advisers, maybe he has more information?

7. That your family is needed to fire your advisors is disgusting.

I am willing to buy that Joe Biden was sick. That anyone needs family input to fire advisors is disgusting. Someone that feeble, suffering illness in service does not need to be President. I refuse to believe this story. That Biden reassured the family fine the public does not need details. A Biden explanation is in order speculation does not help.

Joe has worked with some of these folks for decades and knows and trusts them.

Unless someone has done something particularly egregious that we don’t know about, they should stay.

The debate failure, for whatever reason, was Biden’s and Biden’s alone. Time to reassess his capabilities and strengths as a candidate , and how best to communicate his strengths and accomplishments as president moving forward.
