Trump Spits on the Graves of WW2 Veterans, By Retired Church of Christ Pastor 🇺🇲

I’m a retired United Church of Christ pastor, and I dread the possibility that Donald Trump getting re-elected. That possibility may be receding with the Harris/Walz ticket, but it hasn’t vanished. You see, Trump speaks the language of fascism and all his impulses and character say he’s eager to lead a fascist government. So, I am caught in a web of trauma thinking, bouncing between disbelief and despair, anxiety and anger, agitation and paralysis.
I understand the stakes. I see the link to the dark paths of the mid 20th century, and I fear we might go down the same deadly road as Germany, Italy, and Japan did then.
My parents, you see, both served in the American Embassy in Berlin before the War in the late 1930s. My mom was a secretary and my dad was an assistant to the Naval Attaché. They spoke read and spoke German. They heard the fascist rhetoric 24/7, rhetoric my mom later said, “made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.”They witnessed Kristallnacht. They heard from Hitler and the Nazi regime snarling that he would make Germany great again (just as Mussolini boasted he would restore the glory of Rome and the Japanese militarists growled they would claim Japan’s rightful place in the sun).
They heard dehumanizing language hurled at despised people: Jews and others, describing them as vermin and scum, as disease-ridden and degenerate, as dangerous and defective, as criminals and as those polluting the blood of the nation. And Trump and his collaborators have used this very language. They heard Hitler promising revenge against Germany’s enemies, vowing to rid the nation of those polluted its blood and to crush those who stabbed it in the back. And Trump and his collaborators have used this very language.
They heard threats of violence and saw it played out in Kristallnacht, when Nazi thugs attacked Jewish businesses, synagogues and communities. And we have heard these threats and have seen them played out in Charleston, Buffalo, El Paso, and Charlottesville. I hear echoes of all this in the rhetoric of Trump and his collaborators and in Project 2025. Today, they speak of cleansing the nation of those polluting its blood with crime, disease and drugs, rounding up 11 to 20 millions allegedly here illegally, sending them to camps and deporting them.
Today, they smear the LGBQT community of being degenerate groomers.
Today, they ban books and attack public education.
Today, they attack the free press and free elections.
Today, should they win election, they will call on the military to suppress free protests.
Today, Trump, his allies, his collaborators, and his enablers want to create a fascist regime right here in America, bringing it in through our front door...
