Trump's fury over Harris' switch with Biden is increasingly driving his campaign
(CNN) Deep into his ranting news conference on Thursday, former President Donald Trump told a truth that explained everything : Im very angry at her.
He was referring to Vice President Kamala Harris, whose late entry into the general election race has left him bitter, disoriented, and mourning the loss of the old campaign the one he was winning against President Joe Biden.
Trumps discombobulation was laid bare in a self-pitying and raging stream of consciousness delivered at his New Jersey golf club that raised serious questions about the future trajectory of his quest to return to power.
The ex-president insulted his way into the Oval Office in 2016 when his often-unhinged soliloquies that shattered all the rules of decorum and politics delighted grassroots Republican voters craving an anti-establishment revolution. But eight years on, the now-familiar act is getting tired, a reality thats been thrown into sharp relief now that Trump is facing a new campaign against younger, more energetic opponent rather than a re-run against 81-year-old Biden. The former president is driving his strategists to distraction by refusing to stay focused on the issues like the economy that could help him prevail in November. He keeps missing chances to prod Harris vulnerabilities, allowing the vice president the space to power up her campaign and erase Bidens polling deficits.

(2,354 posts)That if he "sticks to the issues" he could win. All his positions, when he has any, are opposite of what most Americans want. Most economic numbers are good and getting better, the stock market hit historic highs under Biden, bridges and infrastructure projects are happening everywhere, medication costs are finally being addressed, a bipartisan immigration bill was ready to be signed, crime is down, women and children and the Earth are all valued by Democrats, etc. etc. etc.
He may as well stand there and blather on about indictments and Putin and how veterans suck. Makes no difference.

(8,742 posts)is that the mass media still love him and continue to normalize his bigotry and undermine Democrats.
Even that is a fading asset, since more and more people, especially younger people, are turning away from the usual suspects.
Ironically, Trump may have encouraged this through his continual attacks on "fake news."
One other factor: it looks like Putin is on the ropes, and may have less time energy and resources to put into helping the Slobfather. The Ukrainian offensive may be the beginning of the end for him. Mussolini was deposed overnight after the Allies took Sicily. The Argentine junta was driven from power after it lost the Falklands War. In both cases dictators started what they thought would be an easily won conflict that turned around to bite them. I'm hoping the same will happen to Putin.

(65,074 posts)He better be careful. Men his age risk very serious heart attacks or strokes from this kind of anger. I'm sure Melania would be very sorry to lose the guy, her "hosbond." She would cry bitter tears and would be SO lonely.....
