Today's Tiedrich rant: shove your thoughts and prayers

Link: https://www.jefftiedrich.com/p/shove-your-thoughts-and-prayers

here’s what we know so far:

a 14-year-old boy obtained a weapon of mass death, just as our founders intended, took that weapon into Apalachee High School In Winder, Georgia, just as our founders intended, opened fire on teachers and students, just as our founders intended, killing four and wounding nine, just as our founders intended, and was subsequently arrested and charged with murder, just as our founders intended.

for fuck’s sake, we couldn’t even get through the first two days of the new school year without some kid with a grudge and an AR-15 ending the life of two children and two teachers. and — oh look! — all the worst fucking people in the world are now offering us their cheap thoughts and useless prayers.

people like this guy: Brian Kemp, the Governor of Georgia. Brian can fuck all the way off — because here’s how he answers a reporter’s question about how to make Georgia schools safer from gun violence.

Length 1:50, closed captions available

“today is not the day for politics or policy … I would ask everybody to keep these victims in your thoughts and prayers.”

fine, Brian — if today is not the day to discuss policy, then when is the day? can we call your office and set up a meeting? let me guess your answer. is it how about never? is never good for you?

Tiedrich's irony is heavy today, along with his disgust with the feeble excuses from certain state governments and their inability to protect citizens - especially innocent children - from handgun violence.

It's just one of life's mysteries why it keeps happening in this country and not every country.

But I wish he would get off the topic of the biased press. It seems like most of his posts (not this one, of course) are about how they skew stories toward trump and so on. For the first time, I have started deleting when I see he is just beating that dead horse. Yes, it is wrong, and yes, it is beyond frustrating, but we get it, Jeff hates it as much as we do... Otherwise he is great.

Have you noticed he seems to have toned down the profanity in the posts?

Some DUers are on multiple platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Xwitter and elsewhere.

The other social media outlets aren't quite tuned into liberal politics like we are, so the idea is to share these ideas (and links to JT's blog) on other platforms. Here on DU we're preaching to the choir for the most part.

4. "Now is not the right time for politics" *for them* because it's a bad look to be pro-mass-murder now.

Right after 9/11 was a great time for politics if you were out to slam anyone who didn't support shrub and wanted to rush through legislation that wouldn't get passed if we had a chance to read and react like normal

Clearly, whether right after a tragedy is a good time or a bad time to discuss politics depends on how the tragedy plays into your chosen position on the issue at hand...

After a screenshot of text messages between a student and parent during the event, Tiedrich writes:

no child should have to send these texts, and no parent should have to respond to them.

this is your heartless and sadistic Republican Party, folks. they’ll force a ten-year-old child to give birth to her stepfather’s rape-baby, but they won’t do one single goddamned thing to keep children from getting shot to death in their schoolrooms.

Like the other 417 school shootings since Columbine, most of the public, including many of our legislators, will sigh, offer ‘thoughts and prayers’ and move on with their lives. The second amendment protagonists know this and use it to keep their agenda in place. Unfortunately, complacency is the norm until we are directly affected. Let’s not wait for that.
